Traditionally for us, Christmas to tax time is when things slow down. Businesses we deal with are reigning in their funds and spending on orders for next year. Goods are hard to come by and labor being scarce, no one seems to know what to anticipate. I'm wondering what others choose to do when things get slow? Run some type of promotion? Vacation? Cleaning? Organizing? Making samples and displays? Learning new languages?

I have spent the last 4 weeks cleaning the shop. I did have a few small jobs during that time.

I have been in this shop for 20 years and this is the first time I have done a good thorough cleaning. I removed things from the walls and wiped the walls down. Then as replacing items I would think, "Is this worth cleaning and putting back?" I have a pickup bed trailer with a camper top that is now ready to go to the dump. The day that I go to the dump I will probably return to realize that I need at least one of those items.

I still need to do the storage room, but yesterday I received 3 good projects that will keep me busy through January. Maybe I can get to the storage room in February.

We have had some slow time this past month too .....didn't do that major of cleaning, but did go thru some file cabinets...etc and cleaned out. Prepping for year end ....UGH. We too are having issues with getting materials, it is frustrating. But we are all in the Same boat.

Winter tends to get busy for me.

I think it's the frozen ground for winter that gets people to think of spring installations and jobs thankfully come in.

We have had a mild winter so far, and that has allowed me to set posts in concrete as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

I thankfully have a few nice jobs going on to hunker down as the snow falls.

Peace,
Bob

It’s nice to have a slow down finally. Being home based now sure makes it nice. We’ve been renovating the house, so the free time is welcome. I also took some time to tidy the shop and upgrade some areas before it gets busy again.
