Here lately,I've had request for banners.Such as...2x8 and 3x10 NOW OPEN or FOR RENT etc..Making something like these would make a good filler job for us.All to be cut in vinyl. My concern is, what is the general charge for these.Should it be per letter or square footage.I want to be fair in pricing and not to undercut someone else or over charge the customer.I value you guys input and advice.

thanks
Billwood

The hard part is that there's some who are doing full color banners for 4 bux a sq. ft and under, so a Banner that's 2x8 is 16 ft.... $64, sad to say it is cheaper to print than cut these days. We have not cut Vinyl to apply to a banner in YEARS. We normally charge from $6 to $8 per sq. ft....depending on how large it is, and that can be full color Photos.

Sad but true commentary Neil. I have to wonder, do people actually make money at those prices? I'm noticing a trend in these parts in that a number of shops that sprung up and did well during the vinyl revolution are now closed up. These shops I speak of made the step up to digital printing. Just wondering.
I can also remember I used to do a good bit of banner work way back when I was actually in the sign business and had a commercial shop. I was good on big lettering and would average $100 an hour on banners twenty five years ago. Truly sad to see where progress has brought us.

Why make a banner in house when you can go to many a website like signs365 and but them for around $2 per sq. ft. full color.

2 bux a sq. ft... that is so sad... but one has to wonder what material they are using... I guess it doesn't matter does it? Yes George, even though I'm 99.99 percent digital now, I used to love doing the banners and signs by hand.. that is when you made money, real money a few dollars in materials and you could make good money in the run of a days time... But you can't go back... or can you?
