Hi All,

I have an opportunity to buy a 3 yr old Summa DC 3...in great condition. I've met the sign-guy who's selling it, and he seems very trustworthy, but I don't know him well. He doesn't use it as much as he thought he would,(he specializes in markings and logos on private aircraft), and is trying to reduce his shop's debt load.

I do have a job coming up, where I would be contracting someone to digitally print some perforated vinyl for some shop windows I will be doing, so I would have an immediate use for it.

Also, I have considered buying a Summa Printer in the past, but the pricetag was always too high for my budget.

Is $8,000. a good deal for this machine, and, for those of you who own these machines, what is your main "money maker" with them?

Thanks for the input!

Jennifer

I wouldn't sell my DC3 for $8,000. . . . .it's worth much more to me.

Thanks Ricky,
What do they want for one of those HPs? Wow, 64" printing. I'd need a bigger shop.

As I understand the Summa is a heat transfer system, whereas the HP is "solvent" print. I think I've got a lot to learn about the whole digital thing.

John,
If you get a few minutes, tell me a little about your shop and how you use your DC3. I just need to make sure I can recoup the cost and start making money before too long.

Thank!

Jennifer

I just put mine up for sale for $8,000 on this forum's classifieds. I would love to get more but $8.5k - $10k seems to be the going price so that's what I listed. It's been a reliable and good printer, albeit not heavily used since apparel and photography take up a lot of my time, too.

I keep the DC3 in my home, so the non-fume aspect was critical. In my reading, I learned that even the "eco-sol" inks give off toxic fumes. Plus, not having to laminate mattered since I have limited space and my customers are often in a hurry. Those are the reasons I chose the DC3 Plus. If it doesn't sell, I'll just keep making $$ with it, but I really want to get outside more now that my husband is the official breadwinner with his new job!
