Rick, step one happened to be getting a few pics that line up well, leading one to consider this. You could plan it of course, but I thought of it when I saw these three pics.
I cropped an area slightly larger than I wanted to keep, & pasted one on another layer over another. I used the "hide" icon in the layers box, to toggle the front image on and off to decide when to move it up or over, when to rotate, & whether to resize.
Then I pasted the third image over the first 2 & got it registered properly. Then I cropped the 3 layer photoshop file again, to clean up any white edges or corners from tweaking things.
I now copied each layer back to separate new files named 1, 2 and 3. I put them in their own folder. Then I clicked the "jump to image ready" icon at the bottom of my tool bar in PS6
In Image ready, under the file menu, I chose "import" and the flyout "frames from folder"
At this point, it was practically done, but I decided to use frame 2 again, in a 4th position, so Chris & I raise our arms between both hat swaps. This was easy too. I selected the2nd frame in the little timeline filmstrip window at the bottom, & there is a "duplicate frame" icon in that timeline box. If you want to move frames around, you can do that, & you can set the speed between each transition.
The last step was "save as optimized" which turns it into an animated .gif which you just upload to the internet like any other image.

Doug, I think you'll find that it's hard to be around that Butler fella without learning something different each time! Thanks for taking the time to post that step-by-step. And as far as you borrowing my hat for an avatar... why not? I think it makes you look rather distinguished ..... and I noticed quite a resemblance to Kinky Friedman , who's currently a candidate for Gov. of Texas.... again!

OMG! Chris...That's uncanny! Freaky. Doug...with curly hair! And a little chunkier.
Hey Chris!!! Thanks again for hangin' out while I was painting and then helping Julie. You were so super! I am so glad I got to meet you! Let me know what you're gonna do with that big building you're in. I am curious...after all the suggestions you've had.
