This is my second attempt at painting a leather jacket. The customer supplied the layout, it originally had a girl leaning on the car, but I did'nt like how it looked with her and suggested she be left out of the design.

Out of curiousity, what would you charge to do this?

David, My quick price would be about $200
I would have suggested to them to change the lettering so it wouldn't look like it came from a copmuter. Something a little more race looking. At least for the SPEED SHOP.
Another tip I learned long ago. Hold back on using straight white. The only white on this entire piece of art should be the final tiny highlights. In other words.....work up to it, don't use it as a base for the whitewall tires and chrome parts.

a women leaning on car would be great ...if it's wife or real steady ladyfriend .might add some interest...or add unwanted words if not ha ha

car shadow below maybe ...but plain and simple like it is looks nice and clean
....agrees on the white goes the same for black

Actually it's my poor camera skills (flash)that washed out the white.

Nice,
I like the car- but not so keen on the yellow text with blue outline- there's not really harmony nor contrast with that colour combination, and the blockiness of the text doesn't really go with the curviness of the car, IMHO. I agree with John, maybe Speed Shop could have been in a nice bold script.

What paint did you use?

It's One-Shot. It's Imitation Gold with Process Blue outline.

Like I said, the customer supplied the layout. If it was my design, I would have made some changes, but to be honest, I'm tired of battling with customers.

David do you find that One shot sticks well to the Jacket? I thought that it might peel? Great Job all the same.

Neil, this is only my second attempt at painting on leather, the first one I did was almost a year ago and so far no problems. I don't guarantee them, as there are just too many variables as to what can happen to them.

I wipe the jacket down with Rapid Prep, then Glass Cleaner with ammonia and let it dry overnight. No signs of fish eyes and the OS seems to bite into it pretty well.

Nice job David. I do agree that maybe a more racey script or wild looking font used somewhere might have made it better, but overall, it's real nice. And you couldn't have picked a better car. I love those Willys.

Oh and also to agree with others, you should have no adhesion problems with the OS.

While I do agree a nicer letter style would've "Jazzed" it up, the idea was to replicate a 50's early 60's design. There simply were'nt any racy letter styles that I know of from back then.

Now for the funny part, the name is spelled wrong, it should have 2 "n"'s. I even gave him a proof to OK before the job! At least he does'nt want it changed.

You're right Dale those old Willy's gassers are cool!!!

David, I airbrushed a leather vest for my husband with One Shot about 10 years ago & it still looks good. It seems to have yellowed a bit for some reason, not sure if I cleared it with something or not, (it is hanging in the garage & he hasn't worn it for years)but the paint stuck real good.
