I'm installing a zip track for changeable messages on a church sign & need your advice. I've put screws in about every 12 inches, but should I silicone it as well? The track is clear. I understand it may expand in the heat, and wondered if silicone would damage the sign.
What would you do?

Hey Susie-Q... I feel that the screws would be sufficient. I have had silicone failure with zip-tracks in the past. The screws will be more dependable for you, in my opinion. Love ya JILL (and I'd rather have a good screw than silicone any day! hahaha...still throbbing from the warm erection post)

I don't know what size your letters are that will be going in the tracks, but you might want to put those screws every 6" instead of 12". The plastic tract moves a lot - uses oversized holes when you drill for the screws. One thing I don't like about clear track is that in some locations it collects dirt behind the track. To avoid this we use metal track attached with double-sided tape to the sign background.

When drillng the holes, ream them out real good, let the holes be really oversize so when the track expands, and retracts it doesnt bow. Do not use any silicone, the track can't move freely if you glue it. The Gemeni book gives great detailed instructions on installing track. Good Luck & Happy Holidays!
