Well it finally happened, my HD wore out.I am using an old signlab program (E6) on windows XP sp1, with a roland camm 1(cm-24) plotter.

I contacted signlab and will be updating, but with the way the mail is, it might be a month or more before it gets here. There is no one at signlab that can help with this program.

My problem is when I go to cut, I get a "Port not available" error. Ilooked up the error online and tried the suggested disabling of the ports in Device Manager, rebooting and then enabling. It didn't work.

Can anyone help me get this port working?

My Summa did something like that when I hooked it up to a newer computer. I think I had to tell it where or what port to use by getting into the Summa manual program. I had to tell it what port to use. Sometimes you need to download a "Patch"

Are you getting a new Hard Drive, or a new PC entirely?
2nd hand PCs are very feasible - but I found with our old Camm1, that it would not work from a 64-bit system, only a win-32 system.
I keep a spare old Win7-32 bit box set up, unused, for the inevitable day that the main one that runs the plotter, dies.

I just ordered Signlab Vinyl Pro 10 and will make a 32 bit windows install drive and will use the 32 bit option when I get the VP10 program.

Still working on trying to get this port working in the meantime. It's a good thing work is so slow, as the down time would be murder if I was busy. I'm too old and cranky to be hand painting everything. [Smile]

Thank you all for the advise.

Update, I don't know how, but I was told I should have the new program Monday. Things have taken up to 8 days for mail to get to me from less than an hour away. How this will get here from Canada in 4 days seems very unrealistic, but I'll have my fingers crossed.

Cadlink doesn't mess around, it was a few towns over from me in just one day!

I do believe I'm back up and running. The 64bit version does have the drivers to run my ancient Camm-1. Now to get back to work.
