Fifty some years ago we sold a sign for a very upscale trendy mens clothing store on Balboa Island called AA Aardvark. This was a sign around twelve feet long and carved redwood. We didn't own chisels yet and I carved it with a sharpened screwdriver. We got some rub on type, remember that stuff? We set the transfer type in a PT Barnum kinda type and put it in an opaque projector and drew it on the board to carve. I didn't know about the distortion from projectors then. The center of the image was straight, but as it moved to the ends the letters leaned in each direction. We carved it that way and the shop owner was so delighted to have these hippies carve the sign displaying what he thought to be artistic flair. That sign was still up last time I went by there.
