I can't recommend any particular brand of gold paint...soooo...I would say....Why not gild the letters and make them look REALLY GOOD?
Surface gilding is pretty easy.
Do a small sample to show the customer and then you might be able to upsell the idea. They get a nicer look and you make a bunch of jingle in your pocket. Might work?

Chuck, I've also been a fan of the Ronan Aqua Leaf products but lately I've had a couple of issues with the gold paint bubbling and some copper paint flaked off. What kind of primer or undercoat are you using?

Jean, I have used it over many different types of paint and surfaces and have never had bubbling or flaking. Are you sure it isn't what's under it that's bubbling? A few years ago I was using shellac as a sealer and found out it bubbles in hot sun if there is more than a thin coat.

Yes, we did quote gilded letters, but with twenty 15" gilded letters it was beyond their budget. Will try the Ronan Leaf Rich Gold, thanks This would be going on the formed plastic letters, primer recommendation Chuck?

Best metallic gold paint? A good brand of a automotive paint followed by a automotive clear clear coat. Or, or listen to this,,,,,1-Shot gold metallic mixed with a automotive hardener, two tone the letters with some 1-Shot metallic bronze, then clear it with a automotive clear. No brush strokes cause it will all be done using a touch up gun.
