Some folks have been asking about us here in Texas concerning Harvey. Thank you for your concern.
We are in the central part of the state and have only received a lot of rain - no flooding or damage. We have friends and family along the southern part of Texas and they have had high water, but no extensive damage to this point. Some have had to be evacuated.
My wife, Jeanne, has been the shelter administrator for our church for several years and we have a group of evacuees staying in our gym. It has been very inspiring to see our little town come together to help those who are coming to this area for shelter. Some have lost everything they have.
The news media has a tendency to report the bad, but I get to witness a lot of good in people first hand.

Glad to hear you are ok Ray! I have nieces and nephews North of San Antonio, and they are ok too. If people look past the media, they see the good that is happening. People are coming together to help people. Continued thoughts for all of those who are suffering!

These types of events really do bring out the good in people. And yes, the news media doesn't show enough of the good and it's by design. Negative news makes you want to watch more. The more you watch, the higher their ratings, the more money they make. A study proved that negative experiences draws people in. Too bad the media is helping to divide this country for the sake of advertising dollars.
What upsets me somewhat though is the danger all the volunteers put themselves in because too many people were very foolish and did not obey the mandatory evacuation orders. The warnings to evacuate started 3 days before the storm hit. I feel anyone that needed to be rescued in the mandatory evacuation areas should be charged an appropriate fee.
