Good morning everyone! Could anyone that regularly does foam / EIFS monument signs give me a ballpark of how many years these things last? I've only done a few temporary ones for model homes in a high end residential area, many, and this was many moons ago.
Thanks! Felix

I don't have much experience with these, yet. This is my first, designed in SignWizard and cut out on my homebuilt CNC foamcutter. I just dry-fit the HDU graphics on it this morning. With a good coating and two or three coats of acrylic latex, I would say at least 15 years or so. But ask me again about 15 years and I'll have you a definitive answer. Mine is made of 1.5 lb/cu.ft. EPS, coated with "Exterior Foamcoat", silica-sand mixed in for more texture, and 2 to 3 coats acrylic latex paint. https://www.facebook.com/451568945003095/photos/a.458114437681879.1073741828.451568945003095/702416406585013/?type=3&theater

I installed this Peach Tree City Foamcraft sign in 2001. It did well until a truck hit it. But the rest of it still looks fine. I would say after 15 years that it will easily last 20 to 25 before needing painting.

I've just spliced in some acrylic/perspex repairs to HDU letters I made and gilded 6 years ago, where the birds sat on top of the sign and slowly pecked into the bright gold letter tops.
There was a couple of hours work making the patches.
The client wanted 2 new signs the same but 10% bigger, so I did them from solid acrylic - glued two thicknesses of 15mm acrylic together - and gilded that, so the birds would get a headache before they ever dented it!
In hindsight, painting the acrylic was way easier than all the priming, sanding and filling needed with HDU.
So... lasting ability depends on the natural abuse the sign gets in its own environment. I've seen a lot of foam ones where birds have had a party with the polystyrene foam.
