NIce sign. Did you let the customer know you weren't going to use silver leaf? This will never tarnish and it is less expensive than silver. I have used aluminum leaf on a sign. thanks for showing it.

I didn't even mention the option of Silver Leaf. Before my first job- I talked with Urban and W & B Gold and he gave me a lot of help. But he kind of guided us toward the Aluminum. You do need to clear it, but it isn't suppose to tarnish as silver would. People around here have been loving it, they saw the first sign we did, and since then I have had two more jobs of customers calling and saying they want a sign like that.

Very nice. I did a sign with silver leaf and it started to tarnish in just a couple of weeks. It's just as well since it was a surprise Christmas gift for my brother in law. And I found out that he was moving and had to change his phone number, so I had to redo it. I got recommendations from some other sign people, and I used 12 karon Caplain gold. Ithe turned out great.

Beautiful job, Pat! You did right, using the aluminum leaf. It has the same appearance, and I think it's easier to work with.
Many years ago, I did some large lettering for a friend of mine, on an off-road race truck he had. He wanted silver leaf. It was one of my earlier leaf jobs, and I didn't know about the tarnishing it does; so I lettered it with silver. Not too long after, it started to tarnish and began to turn the brownish hues, and I was afraid he was going to make me have to do it over. "Hell no!" he told me, "I love it like that!"

Nice sign , Pat.... actually, awesome is a better word. Mark Kowwitz ... Caplain Gold is 19k..... at least the box I bought is. It's cut with palladium instead of silver, so its only enemy is chlorine.

That is a georgeous sign - and the 'silver' is not used often, or at least not nearly as often as gold, so the Ironwood sign is fresh and unique!
Speaking of Ironwood - that's a great business name! Why did they choose that name? Are there a lot of Ironwood varieties in the area with a history of use in mills, etc, there?

I know with gold leaf, it is hard to read if a bright light or sunlight shines on it. Does anyone know if the same thing happens with aluminum leaf?
I Love your sign

I am thinking the business Name - Ironwood came from the road it is on. There aren't any mills...etc around there, and don't believe there ever was.
Diane - we have an Aluminum leaf sign that is visible from a major highway - and no matter what time of day you go by there - it pops. It does have a light shinning on it - but even without that....it stands out.
