An admin assistant who works for one of my long-time customers (a municipality) started her own "legal document preparation" business on the side, stiffed me on a sign and then quit returning calls and emails. Now she is having to email me with PO's for her employer's signs again.

Wayne...is there a question in your post or is it just a statement of something that has occurred?

There's a guy who owes me $50 for the past 20 years. I bump into him now and then and he says he'll bring a check by soon. Its a joke now. He shorted me $50 on a $900 invoice one time.

Years ago, I had a customer who bounced a check -made good on most of it. Her business was struggling as that industry was ending it's useful life due to changes in technology. Anyway, I didn't stay on top of it, I think it was somewhere around $50. She ended up closing the shop. Now she has a new business & is a good customer. I figure it was a combination of my not staying on top of it & her mass confusion with trying every last ditch effort before closing up.
My suggestions: MAIL her an invoice. After a couple weeks, have a question on a po (or it came through as garbage, etc), call to question her on it & "while I have you on the phone, did you receive the invoice I mailed you a couple weeks ago?"

I'm reminded of a movie about 20 years ago, "A Bronx Tale". A young guy is complaining to his mobster mentor about a "friend" who's owed him $10 for too long. "He ducks around a corner every time he sees me on the street" The older guy says "Do you like this guy?" The kid says "Not particularly" The older guy says "Then look at it this way, it only cost you $10 to get rid of him"

A woman was running for City Treasurer... We did 200 coro signs for her. Her check bounced. When she came over to pay us in cash and offered an extra $50 for the check fee and the "inconvenience"... Then she wondered if "we could keep this just between us..."
Yup.

Been There, Done That! Sorry, but there isn't enough space on here to tell the tales I've gotten from dodgers over the past 54 years. I would probably have to buy a new computer to replace the wear and tear on mine and yours, to tell the it all. Peace, Don
