My old business partner, Steve Ellison, is a wonderful and talented designer of wayfinding systems and author of a blog - here's his latest missive, which I thought you might enjoy:

Thanks Sonny, that was tamer than I was thinking it would be, actually.

I'm getting more and more irked by people like newsreaders and other TV presenters saying things like "There is more...(something plural)" when they shoud be saying There are more...

It's becoming so common it is horrible!

Just last week I changed a directory blade that I spelled incorrectly in 2009. No one had noticed in 5 years. The word....Canada! Left the middle A out.

I've only misspelled one sign, and will never forget again that it's spelled "gynEcology". and not gynOcology.

It was on a sandblasted redwood panel.

"For Infomation, Call...." on a shopping center windows. The owner was African American and thought I was making fun of him. Changed it immediately and ate crow for years over that one. So embarrassing as the guy was a nice guy and very
good to me.

"Grand Openin Sale" 8 foot tall letters on a new Chevy store. Had an extra window, so I added an exclamation point, before I realized I had made the blunder.

"Extrardinaire Concepts". Oops

The best was 43 Price Chopper grocery stores with a "Go Chiefs" message. After the Snickers ad it was "Go Chefs". The whole thing was about BBQ with a Chiefs wolf in a BBQ hat. The Chiefs lost their first three games and I was sent back to add the 'I'. They paid me for it, though.

or how about "Factory Warranty Remaing" on 30 windshields before I realized I was off in the head.

Another was "No fees" The 'f' looked like a 'B' and no one could figure out why someone was advertising No Bees.

I tell you, spellcheck in my brushes would have really helped!

I routed a wine barrel lid to be used as a trophy at a BBQ contest. I had to cut two of them, Grand Champion, and for second place Reserve Grand Champion. Well second place came out Resrve Grand Champion and I did not notice it until I was spraying the last layer of clear coat. Luckily, they gave me several lids and I had just enough time to cut, torch and clear coat a new one.

Hey Ian, how about "I could care less" instead of I couldn't care less. I even heard Obama say it the wrong way.

I was setting up a program for a local wrestling event.

One profile was about a wrestler who competed in the middleweight class and later competed in the lightweight class.

The article was to explain that he did this by losing a bit of weight.

My typo was that 'so and so sweat and farted it off', instead of sweating and fasting it off!

Ooops! Funny but Ooops!

The other day, my seven year old granddaugher printed out her spelling words in 72 point type to take to school. One of the words was "Shirt", but she left out the "r". As she loaded up her papers, I asked her to please check her work carefully. She found and corrected the error. I never did explain what she'd spelled the first time.
