Went to put up a set of 1/2" thick PVC letters on an exterior EIFS wall one block from the ocean. Go to put up the pounce pattern on the wall and the masking tape won't stick to hold up the pattern in place. Tried duct tape - won't stick; tried 3M VHB tape - won't stick. Come to find out the wall has a silicone coating and according to the manufacturer there is no tape or adhesive that will stick to this coating. Looking for a solution...

You might need to get some #10 X 21/2" flat head metal screws. Cut some 2" squares of PVC and drill them for the screws (countersunk). Put the screws thru the blocks and use PVC glue to mount several of the "studs" to the back of the letters.
Then mark the studs (push pins in the pattern), drill the wall and install with silicone or liquid nails, or...

I have put patterns for channel letters up in the rain. We had driven 120 miles to do the job , all kinds of tape and adhesives wouldn't stick, so in desperation, we cut the pattern in pieces then drilled 1/8" holes along the top of paper and screwed the darn thing to the wall with #8 sheet metal screws and washers. when we were done, you couldn.t see the holes, but we stuck a little silicone in them for good measure...

Thanks for your replies. We have found an adhesive that is "supposed" to work on this type of silicone coating. We are testing it right now. The challenge with this job is that the wall is EIFS (white pebbly type FOAM), so mechanical fasteners are a non issue, unless we can determine where/how to reach a structural anchor to attach to. We found out that the building next door is also planning to use this same coating, so this situation will continue to come up. I'd be happy to share our findings on the outcome of this project if anyone is interested. Hopefully everything will work smoothly.
