Here's one that was installed last week for our local Chamber of Commerce. It's a double faced 36" x 42" MDO (.75") finished with Porter 100% acrylics. Lettering is High Performance Vinyl and .5" PVC. Posts are 4" x 4" square tubing with cast iron finials. The star is HDU. No hardware is visible.
The city installed the structure in concrete. It was a hassle getting a permit since the sign is in an historical district and violates a bunch of rules. Fortunately, the chamber did all the leg work getting the variances.
Cost: $2,000
This is the town that I was born in 68 years ago and in which I still live. Population now is 18,000, when I was born it was about 1,500.

Actually, there are two pieces of 1" square tubing between the MDO sandwich that are connected to the posts. On the back of each MDO panel are .5" square pieces of redwood that are screwed and glued so that the panels were simply dropped onto the metal tubing. Everything is glued together with construction adhesive.
This job was originally proposed as a full dimensional sign with gold leaf, but their budget wouldn't allow it. Our school colors are red and white (with black accents) so the choice was obvious.

Good idea, Rusty. I'm sure they'll jump at the chance. I won't hold my breath.
Terry, the red will fade with time, certainly, but there are five coats on this thing so I'm hoping it will be a long time before it has to be touched up. We'll just watch and wait.
I have some other signs in this area that have red backgrounds and they are holding up rather well, even after five or six years.
