New customers seem to want to advertise everything they sell,who is the owner,operator,how clean their toilets are,how long they have been in business,e-mail,and much more.Is all this necessary.It takes a lot of time to paint all this stuff and takes time to read it.Less infomation...LARGER COPY...easier to read.Often I use this common sence phrase and they get it.WHY PUT 50 CANDLES ON YOUR CAKE,WHEN 5 WILL DO? What information do you think is more important for your customer to gain customers and take you less time to finish the job?

I was taught that the rule of thumb was 5 words. Been doing this since 1952 and it still works for me.

This can be true even with artists. I have a friend who is an illustrator, and he used to advertize in the big directories like Workbook and American Showcase. He found that using his best single image on a full-page ad got him the best results. When he tried to add more images to show his range, he got fewer calls.

People often can't see how including every "essential" thing just dilutes the message and keeps people from reading it at all.

I also believe that, unless you have a name like Gloria Vanderbilt, Levi's or Campbell's.......
highlighting what you do may be more important than your name, or the name of the business.

never gave any preference to any of the THREE!!!!
got a lawyer firm here with a great phone number, the biggest thing on their adds 444-4444))))
or those with company name in the number 497-NAPA.
or sign painters.....their name dont matter and most make the word SIGNS.....prominent.
