I am an avid user of PVC. I have adjusted well to NOW knowing 1/2" PVC is worthless as letters placed in exterior down here as they will warp and seperate from building.

Now it seems this is creeping along to 3/4" PVC. I hate to see this because being able to give a customer comparison costs to our painted and install 3/4" pvc was a plus against Gemini letters as far as quote building packages (3 tier if you will)

Last job took less than 1 week for the pastor to call me out and look at something. I could see if from the ground I didn't have to get on ladder. Damn edges were already curled up.

These letters were painted dark bronze and facing south. Another hard lesson in life. Another product that will now no longer be offered in this scenario. I have done this application several times before with no problems.

I am growing tired of these products lessening in quality and going up in price

Another fact of life your dad did not teach you. Most likely another outsourcing job to China or some such place. I wonder when our major businesses will wake up and smell the coffee? Greed, not politics, will likely be the ruin of this country, if it hasn't happened already. Peace

Try sticking to lighter colors as they absorb less heat. It has to be factored in at the design phase.

Bob I understand but when customer want duranodic bronze and you say in PVC you can only have light tan that doesnt fly so well.

I like to give my customers choices and then have to go back and give them limits on those choices as far as color.

I'm with Donald i am sick and tired of these cheap ass products moving in and causing US the working class to suck up these charges. I will not contact a distributor as it does no good as they do nothing but lie or place blame on your methods of prep. or as shown in past, they simply do NOT CARE! and they don't

I posted this as a warning to others on this board WHEN the time comes your gonna do this same application you may wanna think twice. What was once working is no longer. i wish we could all warn others ahead of time

What Bob said. If they want bronze color, PVC is not an option.

Have you looked at other brands of the pvc?

I was happy with whatever brand grimco was using. my local suppliers sells that cheap crap I spotted that off quickly. I have no idea what brand grimco is carrying now OR do I know if that brand has "changed its formula" of manufacturing

I also believe when one product is cheapened the others will soon to follow so im not into "chasing" materials around the country. bout damn near hard to make a living anymore

I quit using PVC in exterior applications a couple decades ago because of its tendency to expand in Texas heat and not necessarily contract. If my customer wants bronze letters facing south, the only option I'm giving him is metal.

I have lots of black 1/2" thick 6 or 7" tall out there.

I've had a PVC sign break in half this week. That's suspicious to me because we have been using a lot of PVC without failures so far. I'm going to start requesting the manufacturer's name on the PVC. We have to make these people accountable if they are going to change the composition of these products. I got a $2000 refund check from Avery on a vinyl failure only because I stayed on their backs.

I got some 4' tall 1/2" Komatex letters that Bruce painted and installed for me several years ago that are still perfectly flat. The company pulled them down and repainted them a few months ago and they still look good. The 2' x 3' 1/2" Komatex sign I did in January and stuck to the wall right below those letters curled into a taco in a couple of months.
