Business in your part of the world? Is it picking up? Is the economy starting to turn around? More sales? Better sales? Inquiring minds want to know.

Neil,

I have definitely seen an improvement with my business here in Oregon, don't know if that is the turn of the economy or the normal increase I have after winter. Still somewhat slow, but better than it has been since December.

November and December were dead.... after the first of the year, it picked up quickly and I've been slammed for the last couple months. It may sputter and die tomorrow, but I feel our economy here is definitely picking up...

We had a brutal winter, here in Kansas City and I was slow, but April is a record recovery. Biggest April on record for me.

I was doing great at the beginning of the year - until two serious snow storms hit. Then things slowed a bit.

And maybe it's just a coincidence, but after our leaders passed this new health insurance law, business stopped.

On the positive side, it's given me more time to work in my garden.

Havin' fun,

Checkers

Very comfortably busy.
A few repeat customers, a few nice new clients, a few PITA jobs, and some fun paint work coming up.

Between times when the lawn needs mowing we've been getting busier all the time. Big theme park work is still not on the horizon but quality 3D sign projects are REALLY picking up. It looks like we may have a VERY BUSY summer!

I'll save some time for mowing the lawn and playing with Phoebe too.

I'd say it has picked up. We're making a welded aluminum frame 'architectural sign' for a church,
Two sandblasted HDU signs for a medical center,
A restoration project on 12 sandblasted redwood signs and 9 small aluminum directional signs for a landfill, Two 72" x18" PolyMetal signs for a diesel mechanic, Some DOT numbers for a well driller and another woodframe alumium-faced sign for the county health dept. All of these are repeat customers.

Also a 7x4 wood frame aluminum-faced sign for an attorney.(new customer)

My car dealers have been very hot about spring. Everyone wants to now make something happen and it has been good for me, obviously. March was a very strong month in the new car biz. A smattering of other smaller jobs, but all in all, I see things as pretty much back to par.

Does anyone see any fast food stores painting their wondows, again? I hear bits and pieces of new campaigns and I suspect the pendulem is swinging back to window splashes from the nefarious and dull stickers, from what I am hearing. Please look around in your market and see if they are painting fastfooders again in your market and who?

I'm working 7 days a week at the moment.

I'm begging the boss to hire me some help. A ton more work just appeared today.

I think I'd have to close my doors for 3 weeks just to get done what I currently have in-house.

That said, very little of it is signwork. With the exception of a few banners, the majority of the work is t-shirts, decals and websites.

It's really good to see people busy, and the ones who are not busy yet, keep the faith it might take just a little more time to reach you... we are busy as Bees, would like to see more Profit, but there are a couple of sign shops here who have'nt a clue, and they cause more damage than good... but we are sticking to our guns.

Sales are up 34% over last year. And last year was a record year for Sawdust and Noise. The work is out there, just work on getting the word out and deliver with the best quality you can muster.

I call this normal business. When the economy was really busy, I was too busy. I didn't like it. Besides to me, that wasn't normal because it was fueled by banks loaning money to anything with a heartbeat combined with a materialistic society.

My business is great as I've entered on the ground floor and as I say to myself it couldn't be any better, bingo it gets better with help from those who many no longer trust, the government [Smile] What really amazes me is how long it took for this to come about in this country and its getting better every day.

As far as when I was pinstriping full time, I never in all the years felt any economy change until I moved to Oregon
