Without saying too much online about the name, I just wanted to share that a 5 year old in my family was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. What a trooper this little one is and needs round the clock care.
This diabetes means that the body cannot produce insulin and the count was 300 when they landed in the hospital for a week. Lots of family and friends were visiting as that little one told the nurse, "I have maybe a hundred family and friends that will be visiting me here!" (chuckles) and sure enough the count was close to that by day 3. We are fortunate to have discovered this before something would have happened and are thankful for the support. It's just that at 4 in the morning this little person has to have one of the seven injections of insulin per day.
To all those that have to watch the little ones suffer, my heart goes out to you. We will be okay, though, and hope things get better somewhat. Just wanted to share and be thankful for the medical technology that exists these days. We will be fine and hopefully the horrific fear of needles will lessen as time goes on and the intake of food will be nutritious and blessed. Thanks for listening. It's a bit scary.

Deb, Lots of prayers coming her way. I had a nephew that was about 10 when diagnosed. I think those little ones adapt better to things like that than us adults. It is scary, but with the technology these days....it makes it a lot easier. How wonderful for her that she has that much family and friends surrounding her.

Thanks, Pat. I think the good thing is also the adults around her are going to be more conscientious about their diets also, and maybe they will benefit too, as there is a bit of heavy junk food around the families. So... you know I do have hope and the little ones are good at adjusting. This one is very outgoing and won't let too much get in their way in life either. I have a lot of hope, and thanks for your support. I am trying to be there for my family but I get tired too.

Looks like an insulin pump would be a good idea for this little one. Can they implant one in a child this young? Will keep your little one and family in my thoughts and prayers. Judy
