Wooooo-weeeeee.... you are playing with fire. Unless you want to become an international online incident, I'd contact them directly and either go by their deal, or figure out a different font to use.

Don't mess with those people.

Yeah - you'd be better off contacting LHF and seeing if they have a solution for you.

Or, maybe someone can type out the word/s you need, convert it to curves so it is no longer a font and give it to you. Is that legal? [I Don t Know]

Letterheadfonts doesnt offer their fonts in truetype anymore, due to rampant piracy. They only come in opentype form. Marie Script is a recent addition, so I doubt if there is a truetype available. You would do better to upgrade your computer to xp. That will solve alot of problems.

Hi Linda,

John Deaton is right, it's probably time to upgrade. If for some reason you are unable to upgrade at his point, I would more than happy to help you out if you send me the text you would like in LHF Marie Script. I will provide you the vector art to complete your project.

I'm not sure what Mr Jantz is referring to.

Dave,

Just Google "$1000 font" and you'll figure it out.

Just so you know Linda, Dave Correll is the designer of that font, and its a great font.
Also, very nice of him to offer to do that for you.

I must apologize. In my flippancy, I failed to notice I was responding to the creator of many of the fonts I covet at LHF, including Marie Script. I'm sure Dave is well aware of all the angles of the event I referred to in my Google comment. I won't take down my comment because I made it and have to own up to it, but I hope no one feels I was in any way belittling anyone or making light of software piracy.

What about Marie's sister- Sarah?
Sarah Script may be available in TTF still?

(Nice work, Dave, by the way!)

Dave, I was referring to the fact that Letterhead fonts has a hyper-aggressive anti-piracy policy, and was merely warning Linda that asking for that font without going through the proper channels was inviting trouble.

"Don't mess with those people" simply means, "It might be better to not ask for a free copy of one of their fonts unless you'd like the donator to have his name listed on the 'Reward' page..."

I'm totally against piracy of software and artwork, and support artists getting properly compensated for their work.... so I'm sorry if I stepped on your toes.

I have been a supporter of LHF for a long time, bought many fonts, but am now banned.

A few months ago I tried to log on and buy fonts, and just got access denied, I called to find out why, and was told that Sweden as a country was banned because of the lawmakers failing to ban certain file sharing sites. It seems abit naive when most countries in the world have the same including the US.

I guess litigation is harder outside the US?

I was mailed by Chuck that I could contact by mail instead, but with the time differences, its often handy if you are in the middle of something to select, pay and download.

Its a shame really, and ironic here, as we never take deposits up front, we always invoice our customers, even if they are first timers, we have never had a problem like that. One thing about living here is people are generally honest.

Today's internet culture is different, and seen differently around the world.

You can't help thinking the music businees should have woken to that years ago to embrace the internet possiblities, and make money instead, of being forced to close record shops for selling overpriced products. (we generally pay more for cd's etc in Europe than the US).

Just edit to say I understand the frustration, but feel its unfair that I should be affected when I have supported from day 1.

open type font question, your sign software has to be able to read open type fonts is that right as i have xp?
If your sign program does not support it can you convert open type fonts to true type?

Chuck, at LHF, takes file sharing and piracy quite seriously, as we all should, and is fiercely loyal to his contributors and their best interests. I, in return am loyal to Chuck and LHF, so when I read your post Jon, I took it the wrong way and made a bad post. For that I apologize. However, my offer to you Linda, still applies.

Henry, I'm sorry to hear about your situation and can understand your frustration. I wish I could do something about that.

Dave - just curious, and maybe it's in the fine-print somewhere...but it is my understanding that once the font is converted to 'curves' and is now a shape and no longer an editable font...you can do what you want with it.

So, just wondering if it's legit for someone like me who legally owns your font along with many, many LHF fonts.... to type out a word or phrase and convert it to curves and send it to someone who needs it like Linda? Is that legal?

On it's face, it still seems like it might result in someone not buying your font.... yet I know that Chuck makes mention on his site about 'converting' a font to curves before sending it off to a printer or somebody else - so that it is no longer an editable font.

What's your take on this? Thanks.

Todd,

If you simply typed "Mia's Restaurant" for example, converted it to vector or curves, I would consider it artwork to do with what you would like. If you typed out all the characters in the alphabet, upper and lower case, converted to curved then sent out to a third party to use as a stencil to create their own art, then that is not allowed. This explains it better:

John, thanks for the kind words. I've always admired your work. Hope you and your family are doing well.

I have enjoyed watching this thread.

Way back when, I used to scan the "alphabets" in "SignCraft" and digitize them. I used the alphabets for jobs, sometimes, and then thought to ask if that was OK.

I was told that it was OK to digitize the alphabets for my own use, just like they were published for hand painters to emulate. As long as they wre not developed into a "font".

My digital renditions will remain with me and will not be shared.

I will "WILL" them to Si Allen after I pass away!!! [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor]

edited to add...Si, don't hold yer breath..I plan to be around for a while!!! [Wink] [Wink]
