I am making some welcome banners for a local kid home from boot camp.
Pretty simple and straightforward.
His dad (went to high school with me) said if I can find one, to put the Marine Corps emblem on them.
I have located what it's supposed to look like.
BUT...it says Department of Navy on it too?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps
I'm confused. It doesn't take much!
Should I maybe just put the inner pictorial on the banners to avoid further confusion?
Maybe just leave well enough alone?
It is, of course, a rush job due tomorrow.
Love....Jill

Hi Jill,
I think the marine corp is a division of the navy, so it saying Dept of Navy is correct.

Jill,

I've seen it used both ways. So the choice is yours.

Thanks fellas.
I found an .eps of something similar to the top one on a link emailed to me by Jeff Lang.
Cutting it as we speak.
Just seemed odd to me to put Navy on it, even though it would have been correct.

Jill,
Use the top one. It would be the most appropriate version. That's the one the lawyers told me to use for unofficial designs.

Thanks Joe, that made it 100%.
Also using that new alphabet from The Fontry on it that Mike was good enough to give to us.
It looks pretty good for a Welcome Home banner.

Last week a lady came to me with a banner her friend had given her. I do signs for her friend. The lady had picked off all the lettering and wanted me to make a welcome home sign for her son. He's returning from Basic Training. I was nice to her but in my head I resented having to re-use a banner. It was picked clean tho, so I did. I made it simple with a nice flag-type icon on it which I drew from simple shapes. She came to get it last night and loved it so much she actually choked up and gave me a hug. She said she had only expected plain text, she never thought it would look so nice.
That made my day.
Love....Jill
