I have kinda been lurking on this board for a long time.In the begining I needed info on how to get a vinyl cutting business going.
All the in's and out's,the hardest being how to draw vector in Corel.Between this board and a lot of cussin' I learned.I now have a succesful business manufacturing OEM stripe kits for the classic fords.Not bad for an old hippie.
Anyhow I got rid of my bikes when I got kids 20 years ago.Knowing I couldn't live in both worlds I chose my family.
My kids are now about grown and I'm building my first sled in about 21 years....Yeah !!
Now here's where the trouble is.I have the frame and swingarm to finish and I'm stuck.I have the tanks,fenders and oil bottle done and have run out of ideas.
Would it be okay if I posted pics to see if ya'll could help?
I started out painting or at least playing with some brushes.Then I went to a letterhead meet in SC a long time ago and was too backward to really try anything there.But I left with 2 pinstriping brushes.Then bought a Pasche then later bought an Iwata. Addictive huh?
Sorry for the long post just wondering if I could get some help here.

Anyhow what I'm doing is what I remeber as "Old School" I'm sick of seeing this flat black no chrome stuff being built and called ' Old School". My memory of all the show bikes we drooled over back in the 70's look like all the paint jobs were "Acid induced wonders"( which they probably were}.
Just try not ta' laugh to hard at my work,it's something I just play with in my spare time.

Steve, most of what is called "old school" these days refers to a more or less fifties look, be it bikes or cars. In music, at least r&b, it's seventies.
I'm old enough to remember cars and bikes from back in the fifties. In my neck of the woods, most never got past the primer stage. As the years moved on, more and more cars made it to the finished stage. By the mid sixties there were more cars with a fresh coat of paint than there were primer-ed cars.

Hi Steve, I'm happy to see that some are still interested in doing paint. Looks like you've got a start going on that frame. Are you going to keep the white on the bottom?
I'm with you about the primer crap on so many vehicles. I think it's because they're too cheap to go ahead and finish the bodywork and do a neat paintjob. Primer hides a LOT of flaws. In my day, there were a good many guys who had primer on their cars, a few of them had the whole thing primed. BUT....that was because they were continually working on the body, getting it perfect for a cool paint job, and that was their only means of transportation. Now, primer IS the finished job....

The pics are up, and it's good to see that acid's still flowing in your neck of the woods!
All kidding aside (and it was kidding), that's pretty neat. Haven't seen a paint job like that for many, many years. It's good to see that some of us aren't a slave to 'fashion'.
....that's not a wrap, is it?.......heheheh

Definitely a paint job that will hold your interest I like how you have the scattered mini-graphics.

That was my era of crapping pants so I can't help ya much there ... but think if you follow the same direction you have been you will end up with a very interesting bike.

Wow. Love the tank. That brings back memories of my teen years where I dreamed of one day becoming a custom painter. I used to draw the Rat Fink all the time, and owned plenty of Roth T shirts bought mail-order from the back pages of Hotrod magazine. Remember the effects using plastic wrap and translucent laquers over pearl? Multi-colored multi-striped Funny Cars? (only vinyl was the product promotion decals).... great memories.
