This is circulating as a hoax email which purports to be video of an actual machine from the university of Iowa or some such rubbish.
It's still a pretty cool animation that someone has put a bit of time and effort into

Yep that info with the video is a hoax--- that movie came from http://www.animusic.com/ animusic 1 DVD--- very, very cool stuff (the clip of "Drum Machine" is my favorite.

The first time I saw the movie, it was broadcast on PBS, then a neighbor bought the DVD.

Here is some info directly from Animusic's site--

Animusic is a content creation company. Our principal focus is the production of 3D computer graphics music animation. We primarily create original content, such as our "video album", but have also produced animation for clients.

Both the graphics and the music are entirely digitally synthesized. Virtual instruments are invented by building computer graphics models of objects that would appear to create the sound of the corresponding music synthesizer track. Graphical instruments range from being reminiscent of existing instruments to arbitrarily abstract.

Animusic is some really cool stuff! My dad gave me the dvd's this christmas. I've watched the first one, but have yet to unwrap and watch animusicII. I will be soon, it's fantastic computer 3d work and sychronization, and I like the music too as it's right up my alley. Highly percussive, and Phil Ehart of Kansas took part in the music creation. I am in awe of the thousands of hours it takes to create these scenes. It's a must see in my books!

Bravo!
Another great find to give us a twist on our imaginations. Reminds me of "Chance" music by John Cage who used utensils and stuff to attach to the strings of the piano for effects.
I really enjoyed your site and must check out this animusic.
