My son is about one week from finishing his masters at Central Michigan University in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts. His intentions were to get a bachelors degree and persue a career somewhere in music, but a kindly professor took to him and he was offered an professors assistant position where he teaches a couple classes and they pay for him to get his masters.
While there he realized that there was all this recording equipment and studios for Central's high powered school of music, but no organization to make use of it, so my son started a recording company for the university. They were so impressed that they rewrote the requirements of the assistant. Instead of teaching 2 classes each of the 2 years, assistants from now on will teach 2 classes their first year, and one class the second while they continue to run the recording company.
My son was taught percussion in school, but is self taught on keyboards, guitar,& base guitar. He's had a passion for writing music and has volumes of lyrics ready to go. Part of his final project was to produce an album. He has posted four of the songs on a web site. Have a listen if you want. I'm so proud of him. http://www.myspace.com/thephilsherbyproject
edit: I forgot to mention that my son wrote all the songs and played all the instuments (with collaboration from a friend on one song)recorded, mixed, and produced the CD on his own.

You should be proud, and I believe your son will do well in the music industry. Sounds like he has his drums in a row.. i mean, his ducks in a guitar... you know what I mean, got his stuff together.
Good luck to him, and maybe if you support him he'll let you do a full wrap on his tour bus one day.

You have every right to be proud, Dave. It's most fulfilling to see our kids grow, mature, and discover their life's calling. His tunes do have appeal as well.

Dave, This is wonderful! I like his style too, and he sounds really great! Now, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the late shows (and early shows). Why not? I'm listening right now. (not that I'm surprised, as he has a great dad like you- personally, knowing you, Dave, you've got such a great soul too; I can imagine having someone like you as a dad. God bless you guys, and I'll be rooting for you.

Thank you all for the kind comments. This post was kind of a personal test for my own curiosity. I too think he'll go way beyond simply recording others, but as his dad, of course I am biased, so I wanted to see what people that don't know him thought of his music. Every year of college, he blew me away with his improvement, especially vocals. We never heard him sing at home.
If anyone is serious about purchasing the CD, I will find out from him the cost because I believe the CD is finished.

Darn it! And me with no speakers. As a mom whose first child is entering college on Thursday, I can't imagine what it would be like to have a kid with a Masters degree. You must have done something right, Dave! Congratulations to the both of you. Love....Jill

...and, me too Dave, now all I have to do is buy a cd player! Dave, you will be sure to check the artwork on the cd label, won't you? Just to make sure it's also awesome!
