Wow! Thats a lovely piece of digital artwork. However I don't understand his motivation to spend that kind of time building it. He says it took 2000 hours. Thats 50 man weeks at 40 hours a week. Even at $200 a week he has to recoup $10,000 to pay for his time. Unless he has a great reputation for this he will be lucky to sell 50 prints at $100 each.
Meanwhile a good photographer could go out there on a Sunday morning and duplicate the image in a couple of hours. Even if he has to photoshop out people, litter and fix flaws he would have less than 20 hours into it. He could have a knockoff of it ready to sell in less than a week.
Why would someone put so much effort into one scene unless you are on the clock for building a digital movie?

Take a look at the rest of his website... fabulous stuff all of it and it sells for up to $3,000 PER PRINT.
I would think this guy has earned a top knotch reputation for his work and I'll bet he makes a good living too.
Personally I would have a tough time spending more than a few hours on a digital piece... but to someone who has the passion for this type of thing it is probably no big deal.
Life is like that... what one person finds facinating others can walk by without much thought or interest. It takes all kinds to make the world spin.

I just looked at the page about Bert Monroy on his website. He has a stellar reputation in the field of digital graphics. He has co-authored several books about Illustrator and photo shop as well as lecturered and done appearances on a TV show on the subject. Has lots of commercial clients and the ones mentioned read like a whos who of the technical graphics world.
Obviously he has done this project to show it can be done and to futher enhance his reputation as a digital illustrator. He should be able to up his fees to the commercial clients after putting that image together!

The Oakland Fox theatre picture he created is incredible too- he did a 3-part turorial on how he created the sandstone blocks, neon signs etc and put it together- written up a year or more ago in some Photoshop User magazines.
