I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know that the Lincoln Wall Dog project was nominated for Main Street Illinois' Project of the year. An awards banquet was held last night in Dixon IL. I was unable to attend the banquet last night but did recieve word this morning that recieved honors as project of the year. Our local paper will be doing an articl either Saturday or Monday with full story details. I will put up another post when aditional information is available.
Since the meet we have put togethor another 65'x12' mural and are in the design process of another to large projects.
I would once again like to thank Mike Meyer and everyone who participated in the meet. You guys really kicked butt down here and made our downtown a better place to visit.

WOW. The power of art . . . remember that in 1997 the city of Belvidere won the Illinois' Arts Councils Governors Award for the Arts for Community Projects and was designated Illinois' City of Murals by proclamation of the governor that same year.
The next year the murals won the Illinois State Tourism Depts. First Place award for Best Citywide Promotion.
Belvidere didn't do this - Letterheads did. The power of art, people. The power of OUR craft.
Remember, the 3 middle letters in bi-partisan? bi-p ART isan.
It's the only thing we can all agree that we need more of - and these communities are benefitting from our hard work and passion. The more 'noise' we make with these meets, the more attention drawn to our craft and the more we can all charge for quality work.
It isn't happening overnight - but it IS happening.
Congratulations Lincoln, Illinois!!!! You deserve it for taking the chance on a project like this!!

The article didn't run today. I wil post again on Monday.
Scott- Mike is all moved into his place and doing quite well.
Don- If I can help you out in any way putting togethor a Wall Dog meet, just ask. You all did so much for us it is time to for me to repay some of it.
Hopefully in a couple years when we put on another meet in Lincoln the town will actually give me a budget to work with. If not, I will just do it alone.
I wish the article had run already. We might be moving onto the nationals with the project but I am not for certain. Of course I probaly will not be notified until it is all done. But that is how a committee works.

Bringing those wall dogs to Lincoln last summer to paint up the town with painstakingly reproduced wall signs in their Letterhead project has earned Main Street Lincoln a design award from the lieutenant governor's office.
Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn concluded the 11th Annual Illinois Main Street Downtown Revitalization conference in Dixon last month with his Lieutenant Governor Awards for Excellence in Downtown Revitalization.
Quinn, who attended the event, presented the award to Main Street Lincoln manager Cindy McGill.
Main Street Lincoln earned the design award in competition with other Illinois Main Street.
A panel of judges, including economic development specialists, historic preservation architects, downtown professionals and representatives from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity made the award decisions.
McGill said, "I nominated it in the best design committee category because of the many elements that the committee had to handle - room and board, sign research, providing materials to the painters, donations - and basically making sure that the painters had everything they needed for the three day period.
"Although the committee was beat, the three-day event touched the heart of the community," McGill said. "I cannot tell you how happy it makes me when I look out my window and see people pointing and talking pictures of the six-foot 'Drink Coca Cola' sign directly above my office."
Main Street Lincoln's office is at the northwest corner of Kickapoo and Clinton streets.
The sign to which she refers is on the wall of the former Coca Cola bottling company, now Simonson Flooring Center and Interior Design, 221 S. Kickapoo St.
"With signs dating back 50 to 100 years, this history will now be passed to our future," McGill said of the Letterhead project.
The Illinois Main Street program was created in 1993 as an initiative from the lieutenant governor's Rural Affairs Council to rejuvenate downtowns in smaller communities.
Over the past decade, the Main Street program has grown from nine towns to include 55 communities across Illinois.
