Pat, do you mean a Walldog meet, like Atlanta, IL or Kenlake? I guess I don't understand what you are asking...you want to plan one? ...or you want to know if there are any planned anywhere in your area for the near future? I think there are a couple Walldog meets in the planning (are we, aren't we) stages in the next few years in the Illinois area. George gave you an internet link...is that what you wanted?

There are several really good muralists in the Gainesville area. If you would like to meet them I could call around and see if I could get them together for a little pow-wow, or lunch somewhere, just to talk shop.
If you want to get one going with some other signpainters I would be game. If we end up with a small group with the same interest I'm sure we could scare up a site somewhere. Sometimes that is the hardest part, deciding where to do one, and who's gonna pay for it. Most of the successful jobs I have seen where paid for by donations, with the project usually being themed towards the community in some way. And I see a lot of environmental themes. Also I'm not against donating time toward one under the right conditions.

George; Thanks for the "link" Jane; I will look for post of up coming WALLDOG'N Jeff; That is my idea of meeting, greeting, and talking shop! Met a young Muralist with a LOT of talent, yet not enough projects under his belt. I get the feeling these kinds of artist are loners either on purpose or by lack introductions. If seven sign artist can start a dialog with others of thier kind. Same should be true of muralist......(maybe)

There's some very fine muralists in Florida. I did a mural in Lake Placid (Florida) a few years back. Don't know how far that is from you. They have a bunch there now, twenty or so historical murals now I believe.
The fellow in charge of the mural program there is a guy named Bob Porter. Real nice guy! I'm sure if you talked with him or dropped him an email he could get you in touch with some local folks there.
His email is bhporter@htn.net Tell him I sent ya!

There is a bridge over US 441 in this humongous retirement community called the Villages, south of Ocala and north of Orlando, here in Fla. It is painted to like your bridge mentioned above. The detail is pretty convincing, and it's incredible the it was painted while dangling over a busy 4-lane highway. Maybe they were able to close off lanes...I'm not sure what they had to do. But it is truly awe-inspiring, the moment you realize that those stones are not real, and that the whole thing has been painted. There are some other murals in the general vicinity too
Also Palatka. Fl has some nice murals around town, They tried to claim the mural capitol title, but something has fizzled, as I haven't seen anything new lately. Worth taking a look though, if you get in that area. Between Gainesville and Crescent Beach.
I think as an interesting addition to this post, it might be good to identify some of the towns in Fla, or around the world for that matter, that have an especially good collection of murals to look at, should anyone happen to be travelling around. I believe I would take a detour to look at some nice paint jobs; maybe others would too.

I get a serious case of stage fright, or something close to it, when I'm faced with having to paint a picture. My artist friends think I have art phobia. I get scared to death about painting a picture of something. It takes me awhile to get up the courage to start, and I usually have to do a lot of looking at other renderings of things to see how others have done certain things before I can get started. But of all the sign-related things that there are involving paint, I like the pictorial part the most. I guess its always slightly out of reach for me, and so that makes me want it all the more. I have had the good fortune of working with a couple of people who knew what they were doing in this field of endeavor. I just did what they told me to do, and it was actually fun. But if either one of them had left in the middle of the job, I probably would have been floundering trying to do the rest of it alone. They made me look good, you know, but really I felt like an imposter. But I learned each time, so it was good to do. If any of you ever have the opportunity to help an artist paint a mural, I highly recommend doing it. For me it kind of freshens my outlook to work on one of these.
