Ah, I miss the days of seeing downtowns with all of the Holiday window painting. I mean some towns still dress up their downtowns with holiday lights and it looks beautiful. I kinda think it's the combination of high shop rents, higher insurance, and the overall price of the work itself. Small store owners are barely making it as it is. Also, depending on the location, it might even be a tad dangerous for the sign painter. You might get a rock thrown at you. About 4 years ago, some local teens were caught trying to steal equipment out of the back of my truck. A waitress at the restaurant I was working at, spotted them and told them to take off. I wish they would have some back, I would have asked them if any of them are artistic. "Can you draw?" Bored teens just need some direction to use their energy.

Alicia, I think you are right on all points.

B/T/W, did you get a free lunch?

Dora and I went to New York a couple weeks ago. She mostly wanted to see the window displays (not signage). Saks 5th Avenue was the only store we found with a nice Christmas oriented theme in the windows. There were lots of lights and large Christmas trees but it was not what we had expected.
