I used the Letterhead Font "Wade Grotesque" on this one but after routing out the letters, it finally hit me: This ampersand looks like the letter "E" to me. What say you? Oh yes the fish is hand carved but only roughed in right now. Posted by Wayne Webb (Member # 1124) on :

I think you're looking too closely Wayne. I wouldn't have given it a second thought if you hadn't mentioned it. What you changed is fine, I don't think it makes any difference in the perception of what it is but it makes your sign unique and that is good!

I saw an ampersand right away, and not a letter E, so I think it looks fine.
Maybe the ampersand could have been a little smaller to "separate" it a little, but I think it looks great.

It tends to look like an ampersand anyway just because of the lower stroke coming up to make a "chin" (like a "G"). However, since the basic shape of the ampersand is the middle stroke leading to the right and down -- & -- this present letter wd look more like an ampersand if the serif pointed to the right rather than to the left. Or maybe both ways -- left and right.

It looks like an ampersand to me. I always make them a little smaller than the rest of the letters. Nice looking sign. Please post the finished sign, I am anxious to see the completed fish. Diane

An ampersand was originally a combination of an "E" and a "T"... I believe it was French... ET It has morphed into what it is today...
