I'm using CorelDraw X8 and I'm making a map using Google maps.
I screen shot an area in Google Maps, using Alt + Print Screen then, in CorelDraw, I key in Ctrl + v to paste the selection in the design screen.
Next I am digitizing over the streets and country roads, because I want sharp crisp lines and sharp crisp text for the street and road names.
It dawns on me that that there might be a setting somewhere that when the bitmap is imported into CorelDraw it could be a much higher resolution than what I'm currently getting, which is a very pixely bitmap.
So the question: Is there a way to get a screen shot imported into CorelDraw at the same resolution I'm seeing in Google Maps?

I've used that method several times before Dave and I have never had any real luck. The Google maps images are at 72 DPI which is fine for monitor use. You can convert the image in CorelDraw to 300 DPI but it is still "garbage in - garbage out". Even using the various "enhancement tools" I have never been that happy with the results. It was still 72 DPI to start with.

I printed a large map for a customer a few years ago. I was able to get a digital "hillshade" map from the county offices. It saved me a lot of time after trying other ways. I drew in the details the customer needed.

I'm working on a map for a bunch of jogging trails in a business park and am dealing with the same issue. The file the architect sent is in over a thousand layers and a few hundred thousand pieces so I'm superimposing my own map on aerial photos.
Caltopo.com might have what you need. It's free and they have multiple layers you can click on and off and you can export in various formats. It's used often in the backpacking community to make custom maps for a hike.

Have you try to take a Picture from the Screen of the map then load in to computer so you can resize the Picture once you have Imported into CorelDraw?? Just a Thought.

I've used the PrintSceeen button, then in Photoshop, click File>New, and in the doialog box, it'll automaticaly have the screenshot size in there. I change the 72 ppi to 288 ppi (4 times) and THEN paste it n, and crop the ecreen edges out. Then save it.
Sure the pic may have been 72 ppi, but what you have is miles more workable. It vectorises much better in Corel also, from that Photoshop route.
Also, there's a plug-in for photoshop by Topaz, called Dejpg - I've downloaded a trial and found it great for removing noise and artifacts from poor quality jpgs while allowing an enlargement.
It's only about $29 for the full version - well worth it. They have another called DeNoise, for abpout $70 - which looks to do a similar thing, but in reality I found Dejpg much more useful.

To Dave Harding, I'm making a wall display map for the Pontiac IL JW Congregation, and they are using Territory Helper.
But the map in T.H. is too poor of quality for a display wall map in my opinion. Their rural territory is over 750 square miles, and they had no clue how many homes were in each rural territory.
My map shows where every house is in the entire 750 Sq miles of territory. 2823 houses in fact, and they are not barns or grain bins or commercial buildings. This way they can adjust their rural territory sizes by house count if they need to. (Don't even ask how long this took to prepare)

Besides that, you might have some insight or thoughts that would make it better. Having another set of expert eyes to review it would be appreciated.
I have to get a test print made at full size to see if the colors and wording are readable. Finished size would be at least 4 foot wide by whatever height it turns out to be.

I wanted an accurate vector of Cape Cod (sans roads) To get enough detail to trace, I had to screen shot about 20 or so sections from google map satellite view, stitch them together in photoshop, and then drop that into my drawing program. It was a chore.
