I'm curious that there seems to be more Edge 2's in use than 1's. That certainly is not the case here in Ireland though. I wonder how many of you need the extra speed of the edge 2 and how many are running these machines flat out. If you are, you should be making a fortune. My edge 1 does about ten hours per week and I'm more than satisfied with the money it brings in.

Kevin,
After much research, I have just purchased a brand new Edge 1 last week. I know it will do all I need. I've already got some jobs out the door and found the speed is very adequate. I could not justify an extra $10,000. (canadian) for a bit more speed and dpi. Enjoy!

I was up till 4 am again running jobs on my edge 2. It has been such a profitable machine that the additional costs of this package with the envision plotter over any money saving alternative ends up being a small fraction of the money it has made me. It is going to be paid off in about 6 months. I have run lots of 600 dpi jobs the last few days. I am really looking forward to having even higher resolution printing capabilities some day, although I have nothing in mind right now. I crank out a lot of spot color decals that I run at 300 dpi & really take advantage of the speed. As a 1 man shop I often have to work late one or 2 nights a week to get a lot of stuff printed. Its not that the machine is running all the time, but when i have time to focus on running several long jobs in a row... that extra speed probably translates into half a nights slep instead of none.

Thats my story & I'm sticking to it... I'm sure the number of variables that factor into peoples decisions are as diverse as the people who could offer an opinion.

My wife gets 'edgy' when I spend too many late nights in the shed, then I lose any edge I may have had [Wink] Oh you mean a Gerber edge, umm, sorry, don't have either, just do it the hard way & dream, or avoid it!

You'd almost have to see it to believe it. I never met an EDGE2 owner who regretted buying it after 1 month. The "bit more speed" Susan mentioned is like driving my Toyota Echo and then getting in an F1 racer. It does all the same things my Toyota does, but at 2.5 times the speed...

That being said, You would probably not upgrade because you like the color of the case. In a more appropriate analogy (some people get bent out of shape when I use car analogies...??)if you could imagine a vinyl shop going flat out, then hiring an employee who was 2.5 times more productive than his colleague WHILE USING THE SAME MATERIALS, all day, wouldn't you freak out? But if you only did a couple of jobs a day, then the extra efficiency is probably wasted.

Many people build their biz using an EDGE1 then upgrade to get the productivity savings back in their pocket.
