Set of custom wheels for a 40 Chevrolet street rod. The original wheel is on the upper right. I first tried cutting a mask knowing it wouldn't work.......it didn't The lines on the original are 1/4", I thought it might make it easier
I dug down in my brush tray and grabbed a seldom used Scharf and had at it. Heavily loaded in a "flood stroke" fasion it pulled a 1/4" line.

George....You've got to be kidding! Nobody's that good! I had to do that once. Did it on the car while someone was spinning the tire.

Pat, not a dumb question....I asked too Those are dual pattern wheels. Chevy and Ford bolt patterns. The car has a Nova front clip and a Ford 9" rear end. Instead of opting to have the axles redrilled, th car owner bought dual pattern wheels.

Did you think of using a broad liner at all? (do you have one?)
Actually I find I have a few old liners in a bird's quill that work really well for a 1/4" line. The hair's white & pretty stiff but they're good for that stuff.
Failing that I think I'd do what you did & flood up an ordinary liner.

Ian, I always had a couple of liners in my kit. I never used them much as I was always uncomfortable with them, never got them to work right. A few years back, Gary Jenson trimmed them down into scrollers for me. The Scharfs worked great.
Bobbie, no I couldn't spin the wheels. I managed to pull a line about 1/4 around the wheel before it got uncomfortable. I've seen rigs for spinning the wheels and they just have to be great. If I did a number of wheels it would be something to look into, I just don't do enough to warrant it.
