We had four holes to dig the other day for a couple temporary signs to go on a project to be developed. Part of the permit requirement was that there needs to be a certified archeological inspector from a specific native American tribe on site inspecting as we dig. Can you dig it?

Wow. What will they think of next? We have so many rules and regulations that half the signs in our area are not even permitted. People are having the attitude of asking forgiveness rather than permission. Can't say that I blame them as the sign ordinance is only sporadically enforced. It puts us in a bad situation as we don't want to install a sign without a permit. The client just goes to another sign company that doesn't care about permitting and will install without one.

We have an agency that protects our coastline called the California Coastal Commission. Sometimes they go too far, sometimes they take too long. They do slow down the impulsive and protect us from over development and protect to some degree the lifestyle of those that would be affected. I'm glad they do most of what they do. The location of this development was once tribal land. I don't know what would happen should they find arrowheads and native pottery or bones and teeth? Would it stop the development or just delay it? Nothing was found in my holes but dirt.
