A long standing local company, owned by two partners have always had an instantly recognizable logo, in the area, that represented the first initial of each person's last name "G" & "K". This is the long standing logo. At least 50 or 60 years old.

 -

Recently, an individual who's last name initial was "E" bought out the man who's initial was "K". Some bright person made a subtle change to the original logo, so that it still remained recognisable but reflected the new partner's involvement.

 -

I had no involvement in this, just found it to be a simple solution to maintaining brand recognition.

I drove past the new signs 2 or 3 times before I noticed the subtle change, probably because the colours remained the same and I didn't immediately notice the addition of the central stroke that changed a "K" into an "E".

That's no E. It's structurally different.

I totally agree Dennis. The "E" is not structurally correct. BUT the whole point was to keep a long standing and locally well known original logo intact with a minor variation.

But you just got me thinking, maybe tomorrow I might just flip a couple of aspects around and show it to the business.

Hell, at age 75, maybe I can pick up a few extra bucks!!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

It's almost midnight right now so I won't post anything until mid morning tomorrow, for your approval of course! [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor]

(Next morning) Here is the modification to adhere to Dennis' ruling. [Big Grin]

When I see the G, it reminds me of PacMan

Better, but now the E is at a bigger scale than the G. And it looks like making it the same scale might make it fit in the frame just right.

Maybe the curved part of the E overlapping the center stroke?
I havent got the graphics app to try out any of this stuff I'm suggesting. It went the way of my worn-out computer, and this new one lacks a good graphics program.

Dennis, don't fret over it. It was never my design in the first place and I just thought the small change to the original was kind of clever. And I still like it.

Logos don't always have to be "structurally correct", they just have to be instantly recognisable. (In this case, just in a local area)

Peace and love

And Alicia...Maybe the original designer WAS a Pac Man addict!!! [Rolling On The Floor] I hadn't thought of Pac Man in years so I had forgotten that "look"!

I can understand why this logo is so instantly recognizable...it is beyond ugly...so ugly that it stands out...and maybe that makes it successful...I don't know...but not for me...if that conglomeration of shapes are meant to be letters shouldn't they be more recognizable in the first place...I don't see a "G"..."K"...or an "E" that make any sense at all...just my opinion.

This whole thing looks like some stubborn holdover from the 1970's, op-art influence. I would advise to just give it up.

But I really do enjoy posts like this.
