Hey guys. I'm sure that some of you do embroidery. We don't do very much, but when we do towels, for example, it can get complicated. Some customers want their boat name on one end, and then they'll want the names of all of their crew, family, friends and "guest" on the other side. Sometimes other doodads like shells or starfish or whatever. My question is how do you charge for this? We just did what I described above,(26) highly detailed logo and (31) personalizations. The boss-wife put 19.5 hours into the project. I just don't know what's fair. Our embroidery machine is a one head machine. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks! Felix

Ive digitized a few boat designs- they are complicated... We charge a digitizing fee for the custom design- $50-$100 to get the art ready to embroidery, then a embroidery price for the design based off of the number of stitches- $3.75-$8.00 per garment. Names are an additional $3-$5 per garment. Then factor in the cost of the garment (if you are buying it) and at least double the cost. Embroidery is a weird product that commands a higher price based off of perceived value, but the labor costs are high to produce. Hope that helps

Sorry- read the original post wrong- I thought you were sewing the design of the actual boat. Im assuming any graphic is just a stock digitized design- in that case, factor in the stitch count, and how long the sew time, how complicated the threads etc- determine a price based off those factors, then add the cost to sew a name.
