I used to use picasa to crop and resize images/drawings stored in 'my pictures'

I tried to download Picasa on my new PC and I find they want you to use "google photos" now

Anyway I need a program to crop and resize images

does this new 'google photo' crop and resize

What I am trying to do is Design a new business card so I can up load it to GotPrint.com

Im using Gimp2 as my design software. When I drag and drop the background image its huge. Doesnt fit my 2"x 3.5" template

Rick

I do all my business card design in Corel x8 suite. You can easily do all of that with it and a great deal more. Some of the cards I've done with Corel....

I dont have coral. I need to get it or buy it.

Anyway I think I figured it out. I dragged and dropped before I made my template size then scaled the whole image to 3.5x 2". I guess that would be called the main layer....?

Everytime I use gimp I forget how to do everything

I guess coral would be the same about forgetting how you to do stuff

Wayne, I'm using CorelDraw X7 right now. Is there any major reason to upgrade to X8? Just in general.

Select the bucket tool (Shift+B) . Choose the color your want for your outline. Use the bucket tool to fill the selected area.

De-select your selection. Ctrl+Shift+A or menu Select and None.

Now use the layer box (Ctrl+L) and move the layer with the outline down. You should now have a nice outlined text.

I give up. What is the "Bucket Tool shift+B" ? above

Im trying to figure out how to outline text with Gimp.. My god they make this so overly complicated

Is Coral easier than Gimp2 ?

Ive been trying to use Gimp off and on for over 3 or 4 years

I sit here at the PC for days trying to figure out gimp and follow the tutorials.

Who ever designed Gimp should be tared and feathered and hung.. [Bash]

CorelDraw Graphics Suite does take time to get used to, just like any other program.

I had never heard of GIMP, but just did a search and although it is free, it is a raster based program like photoshop.

Adobe's full suite, like Corel Graphic Suite includes both raster and vector editing and creation programs.

Personally, I have been using CorelDraw for 20 years and I love it. My main use has been the vector side of things.

What is raster and vector

I still cant get how to outline text.

Ive done it before with office libre etc but gimp , no luck

I wish someone could explain this to me:
quote:
Select the bucket tool (Shift+B) . Choose the color your want for your outline. Use the bucket tool to fill the selected area.

De-select your selection. Ctrl+Shift+A or menu Select and None.

Now use the layer box (Ctrl+L) and move the layer with the outline down. You should now have a nice outlined text.

Rick...In the simplest of terms, Raster is photographs or "pictures" and Vector is line drawings.

Raster images will "pixelate" as they are enlarged. Vector images stay the same no matter how large they are.

In Wayne's photo there are both raster and vector images on the cards. In the case where there is lettering and photos, they are a combination of both formats. Some of those cards that are all vector could be blown up to billboard size and they would still look perfect when viewed up close.

GIMP is a photoshop like program in what is called "open source" programs. most are made for LINUX, BUT WILL WORK IN WINDOWS OR MAC OS.
i have another h/d with LINUX on it and love it. the more mac/windows screws with their O/S the better LINUX LOOKS. its clean simple and works!!!
the open source VECTOR program you want is INKSCAPE. now it works like corel, has a great trace program and is free.

Glad you got your problem solved Rick!

Me, I'm just an "old dude" who used to be in the signmaking business and now enjoying the fruits of my labour. (Kinda like Old Paint!!!)

"What is raster and vector"
A Raster is what you get on your bottom from sitting too long at the computor.
Vector is a marketing scam, also owned by the Cutco Corporation. Really, check it out.
