I need to stud mount some 6" cast aluminum letters onto a rock. Its just an address four numerals. I sometimes use Lexel to mount Gemini letters. It dries stronger then silicone. I'm wondering if there is anything better. I'm afraid of liquid epoxies. They may run down the face of the stone.
Any suggestions?

Use your Exel. It is plenty strong enough. I once installed 42 Gemini aluminum letters and an arrow for a golf course in huge boulders. You'll need a crow bar to get them out even using standard silicone. It's almost impossible to drill all the holes perfectly perpendicular into a rock so the studs get pretty tight just from the holes edges. Just use a can of the compressed air with the little tube to blow out the rock dust from the bottom of the hole and use your Exel and it will be fine.

If I have to stud mount letters on an uneven surface, I'll make the drilling pattern on a piece of scrap plywood. My first stud hole drilled in the surface will be somewhere near the middle of the pattern and I'll then Tapcon the plywood to the background, level it up and drill and Tapcon another stud hole toward one end. After that, the board is secured and I can generally drill to my heart's content without the bit walking as badly. It makes it easier to install the letters straight.
