I just saw where someone gave me a two star (bad)review on google because I have a two week turnaround time. WTF, I never called myself "quickie signs", god knows there are tons of sign companies in my town called Fast Signs, Sign Now, Signs by Tomorrow, Quick signs, etc. If I can recall correctly someone called and wanted a sign the next day and I told him we do custom signs that require typically two weeks. I suggested he call a company that advertises quick service. I guess I may be thin skinned but this really angers me that he posted a bad review because of that. I was not in any way rude or short. Do I have any recourse? I don't like having a bad review.

I'm not sure I'd waste time worrying about him. You should see the reviews he gave other companies....

ANDREW SALTMAN

If you mean by fast 1-2 days everyone does that. Change your name to Average Signs please!

He's done fifty reviews. Looks to me he's in need of a social life.

Not sure if this link will work.....

https://www.google.com/maps/contrib/113994797774212315931/reviews/@30.231126,-81.4973724,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m3!8m2!3m1!1e1

And just for giggles.....

https://www.google.com/search?q=andrew+saltman+florida&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Looks like he's in need of a review.

*****

This just gets better and better.

Says he's an owner at Carbon Capital. Gave himself a 5 star review on the Facebook page. In fact, all of his reviews are 5-star.

Priceless.

https://www.facebook.com/Carbon-Capital-1684403365112703/reviews

I pulled up his company website... http://carboncapital-mb.com

The domain is parked at Go-Daddy. Rather odd.

Did find this one.... http://www.floridamb.com

*******

Even more curious. Forty-four Google reviews. All 5-star including one from a Kelly Ann Saltman of Carbon Capital.

Back when the franchised quick sign model was starting out, one friend themed his brochure, "Distinctive Representation" and added, "Do you want your sign to LOOK like it was made in 24 hours?"

Thanks guys, it's good to hear your support, I feel better now. Glen, thanks for the research. I can't print what I would really like to say to this person so I'll take your advice and not waste my time responding. I'm curious to know if Google allows anybody to post anything they want? They don't have any rules on who can say what?

I don't think Google will let you say anything bad about Hillary or ISIS. Other than that, it's pretty much a free for all.

He has an issue with 2 weeks? I hope he never calls me ... if someone orders something in mid-May, they'll be lucky to get it by the middle of July.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here made a purchasing decision based on an online review?

I have, like Don, made purchasing decisions of products based on online reviews. Especially electronic devices and components.

Services like restaurants and movies are way to subjective.

I'm in agreement with Mr. Grundy.

Fact is, depending on the reviewer, I will go to a movie BECAUSE of a bad review. Not often, but sometimes.

So far as services, yes, very subjective. Some people write bad reviews just to show their @ss.

I agree. Often two reviews are exact opposites. How can this be? Did they really eat at the same place?
Ity's because reviews ARE always subjective, with so many tastes involved and so many variables in the mix. I have been places and read reviews afterword and been surprised when it didn't fit my experience at all.
The best reviews for me are from friends who share my tastes and know me.

And what about speed? Modern society is obsessed with it. Technology has made many promises. But the promise that it always improves the quality of life is not always true. With all our improved equipment and methods, are we finding more time for family, more leisure time, more time to do what we really want? Or are we freeing up time just to pack in more work, more activity, more rush?

Are instant sign shops getting rich?
.............

Maybe I'm just making excuses for my own slowing up as I age.

But I'm not the only one who is a little bothered by the obsession with speed.
This article is entitled The Speed Trap and I think it contains some valid points. And it was written almost 20 years ago.

Another thing about reviews...most people don't take the time to go online to write a review unless something there had pi$$ed them off.

About time complaints....had a call today while I was on-call, off the clock, eating lunch... and she was FURIOUS that she had to wait 5 minutes for me. I make $200 on a GOOD week, less than $30 for 2016 in tips, and most of that was s $20 a couple months ago...unbelievable.

I used to always look at Gene Shallot's reviews for movies. If he hated it I made a point of seeing it. I loved almost every movie he hated.

I buy based on reviews from Amazon but only verified purchase reviews. I go right to the one and two star reviews to see what the problems are. In many cases I can tell from the review that the person was a complete idiot and they either bought the wrong item for it's intended use, didn't read directions, or expected the item to work miracles. I will avoid items that have as many 1 and 2 star reviews as 4 & 5 stars. But some items you have to read between the lines. When it comes to printers, by looking at reviews alone you would think there has never been a single decent printer ever made. The printer I ended up with only had a slightly better overall review rating than many others, but I have to say it is the best printer I have ever owned.

I like reviews overall because many times you can get a pretty good idea if the item is going to preform the way you want it to. Two examples are my laser printer and a sound bar for my TV. Some reviewers for the printer had tips to reset the toner counter to get hundreds more pages out of the toner cartridges. And a reviewer for my sound bar had a tip for turning off a feature Sony had set as a default setting which improved the sound tremendously.

Good point, Dave - I read the one and two star reviews on Amazon also- even about books - to gauge the worst aspects.

And if I'm looking for cheap accommodation somewhere, I'll sometimes look up hotel reviews.
If it says 'the sheets have not been cleaned for 6 weeks and the place is full of cockroaches...' which I saw a couple of times, I'll give them a bit of a wide berth...

Other than that - no I don't actively seek reviews.

I also read hotel reviews when I'm on the road, especially with the resurgence of bedbugs in the USA. I know a family that had to break their lease and move out of their apartment when the place became infested with those things. It was quite an ordeal for them and I sure don't want to bring any of those critters home.
