I once had a sign shop owner tell me that he always experienced a slow down at the end of July. It was either due to customers taking vacations, or extremely hot weather, or just not much going on in the middle of the year.
I was thinking it has leveled off from the late spring madness for me too but still steady. I would say it is more manageable and easier to stay on schedule than before.
Do you experience a slowdown during the summer months? Just curious if other parts of the country (or world) have different slower months.
Sign-cerely, Steve

Here in upstate NY, it slows in July, August and January. In July and August, lots of folks are on vacation and the schools and colleges are mostly closed. The boom months are in spring and fall. I also get a nice run on camp signs in December because they make such nice gifts.

Summer is when I get outside jobs done. Like big trialers n walls. Most of these jobs have to wait for the summer because of the rain.

Hiya Steve, I typically expect business to be slow twice a year, July-August and December-January, mainly due to the weather and holidays/vacations.

This is kinda what I have heard before but was wondering if anyone like Alicia, is really busy in the summer. We have been steady which is manageable. I like more time for deadines instead of the rush of "Can I have it in a couple of days?" sign jobs.
How about our friends up north in Canada? Is this a typical slow down time in July/August for any of you?
Sign-cerely, Steve

I still say it is a function of how hard you go after business. Even when things are busy, we must remember to still reach out to new and old customers with the old shoeshine and smile. My business just wrapped up the first half of the year at 18% ahead of last year's first half great efforts, so no slow down here.
It is always hard when we are busy, to remember that pushing our name out there is always important, every day. I know I have to remind myself and keep it churning. Look at old proposals and clients. Look at new buildings going up or clients who are remodeling or moving. It is out there. All we need to remember is that are alot more of them than us! Just get busy and take another deep breath. The next big deal is only a phone call away!
