At this time of year there are always lots of posts about gratitude, thanks, and positive outlooks for the future.
I always feel those same thoughts but don't often post them, because I always think my thoughts come across poorly in the typed words.
BUT
In recent weeks, here in Mexico I have sat and talked with a few owners of bars and restaurants that Shirl and I frequent. (Yes we do drink and we do eat!!! LOL)
One common thing I have noticed is that the places we frequent are owned by Mexicans (who woulda thought?) who speak passable English but who don't read or write it well. They tell their "sign guys" or their "printers" what they want on signs or menus in Spanish and English.
But their printers or painters also don't know English spelling. TONS OF MISTAKES!!!
As of now I have offered to redesign menus, with English corrections only, (I ain't touching the Spanish part!!!) that they can have their printers redo.
And also vectorize and correct the English only parts that their printers can use to correct errors.
Plus some other kinda weird kerning, centering and layout flaws.
I have never been a signmaking genius like many here but the business provided me with a way to retire. Now it is time to help out a bit in my own small way and help out some small business guys who are working hard to make a living.
My charge???
NADA
Propina? es posible
Cerveza? Si
Ron y Coca lite? SI
Big handshakes and hugs SI!
Prospero Ano Nuevo por todo mi amigos!!!!
(edited to add..) I am, in no way, trying to establish a business here. Just editing some spelling mistakes. And that, in itself, will mean repeat business for the local sign and print guys as they redo newly edited stuff!!!
(Gawd, now I sound like Santa!!!!)

Dave Thats a worthy offer...but why not at least trade off some food and drink for your efforts? You probably will be rewarded like that anyway.. Just a thought Merry Christmas
We might get a meal out of it. But my intention isn't for that.
We know and love these local guys. They are trying to attract business from English speaking tourists and cruise ship folks.
I'll just be trying to make their already good signs and menus more readable in English.
Michael...Happy New Year to you and yer wife and Betsy? (if I remember correctly?)

Now that you are retired you have no excuse to not hop on Continental out of Houston for a 1.5 hr. flight into Merida.
Got wheels, we can pick-up!!!

I'm afraid that Barb could not get dialysis there, that I could afford. LOL. She has to go three times a week, which kinda limits us to U.S. and some cruises. But, other than that we are doing fine.

LOL Bill...Not only have I heard of Lizard Joe's but one of the ex-pats who lives here has a nickname "Lizard" and he arranged for Joe King Carassco to travel to where we live and headline a 3 day weekend of concerts, with local bands as lead in acts.
We were back in Canada when it happened so we missed it.
Yes, Joe King Carassco does own Lizard Joe's.
Shirl and I and another couple of couples are immersed in Texas here in CHelem.
When the local highway here was widened and repaved one of the local Texas ex-pats had an aluminum sign made and erected that read "LBJ Freeway"!!! It lasted about 2 days before the highway "police" pulled it down!!!

" Las Santinas " during the 60's in L.A. I met these two brothers who I wholesaled shirts to as they owned a clothing store in the valley and that was the name of their business and when I asked what the name meant one said when they were in high school, their Mexican friends would see a custom car or something strange and would say what sounded like " Las Santinas " what they were actually saying was " that's something else "
