Thought you all might be interested in this webpage. I put in a query about just what ink or paint he used to do the teeny weeny lettering on the rod illustrated, but havent had a reply yet.

My old buddy, Mike McClould, built some fantastic fly rods. I would print out labels for him on my Edge. .001" clear poly label stock and gold metal foil. It's not an outdoor rated foil but once it's buried under the epoxy it holds up well and the label itself is completely invisible, at least on the rods he built for me.

One was a b-day surprise and he had to find another Edge user to print out my labels.

We went to an art fair this weekend. Saw a lot of cool stuff. One woman did this fantastic detail paintwork with some sort of lacquer. Tiny, tiny lines. She gave me a demonstration. She didn't use a brush but rather a "tube' she made out of what looked like wax paper. It was rolled up and looked like a mini cake deorating tube. She could make the tiniest lines with this setup and QUICKLY!!!! She also lettered with it. I wish we had brought the camera [Frown] Some of these lines were the thickness of a human hair.

Me too Rick. He built me two fly rods. A 5wt Christmas gift and
a 10wt. 50th b-day gift. Unfortunately, 6 weeks ago some derelict crawled under my boat cover and went through everything in the boat. He took a box of flys that I tied last winter, he took a dozen spinnerbaits out of my main tackle box and the idiot cut the fly off the line, took off the $100 reel and stole the 10wt. He left behind hundreds of dollars of other rods and reels though, Go figure.

I'd trade a bucket full of the store-boughts to have Mikes rod back.

Hey, thanks for sharing,...always great to see anothers handiwork.
I bought a paper bookmark from an elderly man who worked the "back of the store" in Chinatown, San Francisco. He painted a watercolor Cherry Blossom Tree with the tip of his finger. He dipped into paint and used different colors. It took all of a couple of minutes, as he sat very proud at a crd table. He had an article proudly displayed of how he was reconized for his artistic acheivements and contributions by Gov R. Reagsn. It was the most unexpected and awesome few minutes that i happened upon.
