Don Coplen replied to a statement I made a couple of days ago, suggesting that it was a good thing that you can't post an actual vector file on the Internet. (Matthew Rossi's post about Flag Clipart) I was complimenting Don on his great work, by the way.
quote:Good thing that ya can't post an actual vector file on the internet or THAT one woulda been on every vehicle bumper in the USA at the time!!!!!!!
quote:Yes, you CAN post a vector art on here....but no, not doin it. LOL
I know that you can provide links to locations of vector files for download, but I have looked around a bit and can't find any vector file format that the usual web browsers will recognise and DISPLAY. Is there such a file format?
edited to say.....Wouldn't THAT be really cool though??? Just think...the next time someone wanted a vectorized "Calvin" everyone could post their collection and the poster could "browse" the collections and just right click on the ones he/she wanted and easily download em!!! *jokin*

Word 2000 and Powerpoint 2000 have built-in support for M$'s Vector Markup language supported by Internet Explorer. VML is a subset of XML, and generate XML/VML web pages.
But I know nothing about using it as a posted art for copy.

I exported a simple vector image from Corel as a wmf file and uploaded it to my website. I then tried to open the image in Internet Explorer and it locked up Explorer. I tried a couple of times but it locked up Explorer each time.
Could you explain the particulars of what you did?
Edited part.....Got it working Elaine...Seems I had to remove the fills to make it happen. And I can't get the sizing right, but this is interesting. Gonna have to persue it further.
OK...edited again....
I wasn't including a placeable header, and that was part of my problem. It works for me now....BUT the sizing is still kinda wierd...A lot smaller than what I exported as....

Hi Dave...if it's a vector, what difference does the size make?

Terry..Just trying to get a handle on what size to export as, in order for the posted image to appear online as something that is actually visibly appealing.
For example..the image above was exported at a physical size of around 30" in Corel. I know that there are many things that I'll have to research, but at this time I'm just kinda happy that it is possible to do.
Once "downloaded" of course it can be re-sized.
Now that I know it can be done on a Windows based system, albeit at this time kinda crude in appearance, I'm going to be interested in seeing how Don Coplen would approach it from a Mac based system. And if this type of image posting will work cross-platform.
I'm really only interested in this experiment because it is interesting and today is a holiday Monday here in Canada and I had a bunch of time to kill since it is still overcast, rainy and coolish here in SouthWestern Ontario.

Yes the chevy logo WAS vectored Sheila...but the actual image I posted was a bitmap of that vectored file. If you were to right click on the chevy pic I posted you would see that it is a jpg, not a wmf/AI/EPS/CDR or any other type of vector image.

this is all very interesting to me too. I tried to upload a version of Elaine's deck drawing that had some fills using illustrator. It displays slightly different then it did in illustrator, (some floor decking lines have dissappeared ?)but is downloadable & comes back in correct.
My interest is genuine... but I think my interest is enhanced by a combination of having a van I should be working on & the hot weather here today.
*edit* Oh, I forgot Dave solved the fills issue. I wonder why so much white space surrounds your file Dave? I snagged it, but it was still small by the time I opened it. I enlarged it (& messed with your outlines) to see if it still brings in white space.
