Hello. I have been lurking this group for quite sometime. And this morning I think I will come out of the bushes an introduce myself. My name is Leonard, and although my login qualify's me as a guest, my wife has actually been a resident for 2 seasons now, I don't feel comfortable posting under her name.
She never post anyway, we are both lurkers.
I am a small shop owner who's primary product is airbrush. Although recently the sign business has been picking up and I see in the very near future actually taking the lead. My wife is the true artist in the family, I am the one who gets to use the computor and cut the vinyl. I don't have a lot of exerience in the sign industry, although I have been around it for several years. One of my fathers dearest friends, and a man I highly respect is a very accomplished retired signmaker from Terre Haute, Indiana named John Hemminghouse. Although John is retired from the sign business and spends most of his time carving wood, and has carvings displayed in the Governors Mansion here in indiana, he is a Huge help to me and my business. Through talking with him, and knowing John's work, I have spent a lot of my time just looking and reading signs throughout the Wabash Valley where we live, only to discover that there are a lot of signs out there that are not really very good. I am a simple, straight forward, natural layout type sign guy. I really do not like clutter, and am not enough of an artist to produce too much of it anyway.
Currently, most of the signwork comming out of our shop is Banner and Magnet work. It seems that I am the man for that in my town right now. There are no other sign shops in Clinton Indiana, but Terre Haute is within reasonable distance, and with a little more experience, and a little more time, maybe I can slow down a little of the business from going there and stopping by my shop for a quote first. I am not a Quickie Stickie shop, although it seems like I do an awfull lot of "Soccer Mom" type graphics. But I charge accordingly, and do not give it away. I also hold down a full time job at the local powerplant as a Union Millwright, so making the Quick Buck is not in my agenda, I make a decent living anyway, and know what my time is worth. My truck lettering is strarting to pick up, along with some nice 4 x 8 work, so I think I must be building myself a reputation in my little town. I really enjoy this group, and have learned alot here... For the most part, I will be lurking in the bushes, and am not the type to feed a line of BS or jump in with a pile of sarcasm, well maybe a bit of sarcasm once in a while.... thanks for having a good place on the net where a person can actually learn something...
Hope I can be a contributing member sometime...
