Paulette and I just got home. What a nice weekend we had...exhausting but nice.
Paul Straus and I keep getting entirely too much credit, when in fact, we just organize the event. It's the folks who come in and donate their time, skills and materials that make it all happen.
In no particular order, thank you to the following paint pushers:
Tom "TOMAR" Warner Tramp Warner (no relation..eh?) MJ Van der Voet Terry Buszac Bruce Bowers Dana Bowers Dick Toporq Bob Timmerman Clint Keidel Ron Brent Ronnie "Ron-de-Vous" Lasker Unkl Ian Peter "Gunn" Cangemi Luke "All The Way From Florida" Scanlan Christopher Zelasko ...Paul and Myself.
The hardest working ladies ya ever did meet: Ann Timmerman Cheryl Zelasko Margaret Straus Jeanine Leighton My wife, Paulette.
Guest Auctioner Chuck" I have a 300 mile drive home" Leighton
Bill Miller, who never says "no, I CAN'T getcha another table"
Frank Manning, One Shot division of SprayLat, whose paint contribution from last year, (and which has by the way been to PanelRama, Michael Boone's meet, and now a second year at Cavalcade) is still holding out.
Andy Sackett...the most stand-up, top-notch, salt-of-the-earth show promotor I've ever met, and his cast of several.
Countless, mostly unknown "patrons" of the arts, who paid and bid generously for our wares; (although the Feils came through LARGE, as did Frank from The Car Shop in Buffalo.)
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. When we bailed out at 3:30, there were still several items waiting to be picked up and paid for, and we had raised in excess of $5,500.00 for the Buffalo Center for Handicapped Children. So we nearly doubled last year's contribution. Every cent we raised goes directly to the kids. No administration costs, no hotel and travel costs, no promotor's cuts...the kids get all the dough.
So from the bottom of my heart, and I know I speak for my wife, and Paul and Margaret Straus...Thank you so much to all the skilled tradespeople, gracious hosts, and the generous people of Western New York; for making a really good thing happen.
Bless you all.
Brian Briskie

We had SO much fun!! Nothing like a weekend with a bunch of flamin' stripin' letterin' guys to give ya a real upbeat, creatively high, all around great time!
And to top it off, doing some stuff that benefits the local kids charity. The total was over $6100! Everyone there was great... and the gals kept it incredibly well organized.
And get this... I LETTERED! YEAH, all you people that just fell over... I LETTERED!!! I actually painted real letters that said something! Of course, I had Bruce do the layouts, cuz he's got some killer letter styles. It was pretty shaky and I really need alot more practice, but I actually did it... and survived to tell about it! Shhh... don't tell anyone, but I can't wait to do it again!
Oh, I also painted my artsy fartsy flowers on a couple things. Kinda funny to me that here I am, in the midst of flamin' skulls... and I'm painting flowers! Where else can someone paint sunflowers on a purple skull while listening to an Elvis impersonator??
Wonderful job everyone!! And SPECIAL THANKS to you guys for some well timed, much needed ego boosting. Very appreciated!!
Hey - if anyone took a picture of that welcome sign I did, can ya send me a copy? I forgot to get one. Thanks!

Not too shabby, Dana! Jane and I are heading out to Arizona this Thursday to see my folks. Gonna take the long way through Colorado, I think. Too bad I don't have that Arizona sign to take along! Learning brush lettering will give your sign work a little extra. Hand done lettering will have another hey-day.

Nice work, Dana! How'd you get the textured look on the lettering? That airbrush on the sunset, sillouette graphic? Very nice. Any chance of closeups?
Girl, you should be doin this stuff for a living, you know!

...well timed? I don't know if I'm too late to fit that description, but it's never too late for another atta-girl! Nice lettering, can't say I've done any yet... but I did get a few more brushes from an old snapper that switched careers. I will be getting some lessons from him soon. Your Arizona panel rocks!

Oh you guys, this was supposed to be a post about how awesome the weekend went raising money for the kids! I guess I shoulda posted that in the portfolio section, huh?
As far as the panel goes, I guess it looks alot better in the picture than in person... LOL!!
Bruce basically did the layout - I kinda had an idea, but he went with it. I just colored in the lines. Airbrush? What's that? It's just painted on with a regular brush, no big deal.
As far as the outline goes... I wanted to put a thin outline stripe of bright orange... but I was way too shaky to attempt it, so figured, hey, what the heck, go for it. So I did. Actually turned out kinda cool.
I hope the people like it, since they left the show early and Cheryl was gonna bring it to them.

You're right, it was supposed to be a post about a bunch of us raising money for the kids.
I'm attempting to link this post to a photo album from the event, courtesy of Jan Gentz, director of the Buffalo Center for Handicapped Children.
