OK so I've only got version 4, but I'm havin' a blast working with this stuff, 'cause it's all new to me, and I'm not in a position to buy the latest version anyway.
Question: I have a few practice files, where I drew a big letter with the mouse, then used nodes in curves mode and staight line mode to clean it up the way I want. This stuff is AMAZING! Then I went and put a 2 color blend/fade/halftone/whatever it's called in the letter. When I open the file, the color shows in the little window off to the right just before I open the file, but not on the actual "drawing" page. Just the black lines that I had drawn. It would probably print fine (but printer not working).
What if I wanted to show an idea to a customer on the monitor? No color?

It sounds like you've got it set on wireframe instead of enhanced. Go to view and change it. If that's not it, I don't know, I don't remember ver.7 let alone 4.

James...Wow, I am reaching way back.. but does ver 4 have a "view" option?...If so go to "view>enhanced" or "view>normal" instead.
If ya like Corel 4 go to E-Bay and get version 9 or 10 for very few dollars!!! You'll REALLY like the program. And you can learn it as it is today.

hummmmm 4 runs on win 98???? or it wont run on a pentium type machine....what computer you got an old 486????? i know it cant find the AGP video card in mine!!!!!!! geez with all the versions out there...i could give you a copy of 7....unless some thinks thats a bad idea.....iam the last one still using it....heheheheheheh

If you have Corel 4, you may be able to use it to upgrade at a lower price.
Version 9 would be an excellent choice. Version 10, however does NOT come with a printed manual; the directions are on a CD. That must be extremely inconvenient (and foolish of Corel join the "screen-replaces-book" fallacy). It's a lot easier to prop open a book and practise on the screen, than to juggle 2 half-size windows on the same screen.

Sometimes it's preferable to work in wireframe and toggle in and out of full screen preview, with the F9 key, to view fills and colours. Version 4 was a favourite; no doubt it would seem a little archaic now.

Just to keep things acurate: Bruce, version 10 DID come with a printed manual, it's right here in front of me. A good manual too, but not specifically geared to the needs of a signmaker. I bought version 9 on e-bay for around sixty bucks a couple years ago, it worked really nice. Like others here, I'm also cutting directly from Corel.
