Although this is very much like the pinecone sign I posted a while back.. I still thought you guys might get a kick out of this one...quite possibly the worst "before" I've ever replaced...looking through my portfolio the customer was taken by the earlier hdu pinecone sign I had made and wanted me to duplicate it...the name fit well but this was a very small group of apartments with a small budget...usually I don't figure down but this time I did...the pinecones would be easy...make a protocast casting from the mold I had already made...next use mdo instead of hdu...I hand routed "V" grooves in the 4'x7' mdo shape I had cut out and painted them black to give the appearance of individual boards...next I cut and glued on frame boards out of mdo...however I did make the letters out of hdu as well as the "APARTMENTS" panel...in this panel I blasted the letters in...although this wasn't my usual hdu woodgrain sign I thought it turned out pretty good when compared to maybe the worst "before" I have ever replaced.

Almost forgot...although faded out considerably...I was able to partially make out the original sign maker's name...the first name looked like it started with a "J"...but the last name definitely was Pribish.

That is quite an upgrade Rusty. Nice work as usual.

BTW, could it have been his cousin Jim? [Rolling On The Floor]

Dave...I don't know if it was Jim or Joe who made the original sign but let's just say that I hope they found another field in which they can find satisfaction and purpose because when it comes to sign making and designing they don't have a clue.

Another beauty! Have you had any trouble with warping on your casts? What are you using to cast with. If there is a previous post with more information on that can you direct me to it?

Rusty,

The owners of that apartment complex will, probably, have to raise the rent to all tenants, to be able to pay for such a beautiful and classy sign.

You are getting there, Rusty......Keep working on it.....One of these days you'll get it right.

I still like J. Pribish's version..........Just keeeeedin'

Outstanding beyond the norm

It's the norm for Rusty. signdog gives Rusty a high five!!! Although Winterhaven with no snow on the ground in Feb. seems weird to me, I guess winter weather is relative to your geographical location. Now if they called it Snow Valley Apartments, I'd have to call ya on that.

It's a tall order to beat brush script and mailbox numbers, but you managed to do so quite convincingly.

At least it wasn't Brushscript in ALL CAPS.
Duncan, I know what you mean about names. I did a sign for a housing developement called "Pitts Landing" that was 30 miles from the closest lake. Some people just don't think before they name something.
