Nothing fantastically elaborate, but I just thought I could show some of the newer folks that you could do some pretty cool stuff, with just the basic hand tools, and recycle some materials at the same time.

This sign is made totally of scraps of MDO plywood, hand cut with a saber saw, and shaped and sanded with a couple of die grinders and small disc sanders. A couple tablespoons of paint, and a few sheets of faux gold leaf, and you've got a presentable little deal.

Our town has flowerbeds at each entrance, and local residents are working with the city to personalize each location. This was my contribution to ours. Now I've got prospects of a couple of the other groups wanting me to make something for them too; so you see, good things can indeed come from a little tedious work.

I think it is a beautiful sign (scraps or otherwise). I am a pinstriper and am working on recovering my sign painting talent from years ago. (about 50 that is) Keep up the good work.

That's great to hear, Dale. It's 'projects' like this, that build my self-confidence back. Since I had that stroke, some really tedious movements and ways I turn my hand, have been hard or impossible to do. I have also not picked up a pinstriping brush, to date.

But Thank God, these things are coming back. And this is the type of signs I enjoy doing, keeping the caraftsman aspect of the business going. I'm also planning to get the striping brushes out very soon again. You do the same, and best of everything, in your endeavors. I'm 67, but I really have no plans for retirement, as long as I can do the work I love.

That is a awesome looking sign and to be made out of scraps laying around more bonus points indeed.

Great stuff Dale. I have all my shop walls covered with "Scrap" sample signs.
You remind me that I'm soon to forced to down size and get "Back to the Basics". In a 1 car garage.
I too still love everything creative and hands on basic tools. Thats how I built up this "HOBBIE SHOP" to all the expensive equipment, CNC Router, Digital Printer, etc.
