I was in touch with Dave Smith the other day and he attached some recent work which left me gasping for air. so I asked him could i Post it here, this is his reply, which is as I got it,
Sure go ahead and post I don't always get the time to post there. Some talented folk on that forum and real nice as well. Just to let you know the glass was slumped under its own weight at 680dgs over a stainless steel mould. I fired a vitreous glass paint directly into the glass shaded it by hand and then water gilded in 2 different shades, the border has a varnished line which was wire wooled to a matt finish and then water gilded with 23crt loose gold. The gypsy caravan panels which were three of them were a combination of Victorian techniques ranging from Brilliant cutting triple embossing gilding and silvering and engraved with verre eglomie tooling they were also bevelled. Tone of work but collectors like this type of glass.
I know some of that doesn't make sense and maybe if Dave sees it, he can explain it but I had to go with what I have

You guy's are very nice here.Thanks for your comments. Steve thanks for emailing me that Miles had posted these images. John there was no screen set up but I would like to try out some curved screening sometime,if any one has done some I would love to ask a few questions. The letters were handrawn and vectored on the old computer. I cut a paint mask and applied it to the glass then painted on a glass paint which can be fired to high tempatures which bakes into the glass. At the turn of the century alot of reverse glass paint was baked onto the glass for extended life of the sign. The shade I painted in by hand which could have been done also on the machine but you guy's know how it is when we like to get our brushes out and give it that hand look. I like combining the computer with the hand work as it does give you the speed and the finish is like it has been screened. I was Thinking about having some screens made which would be curved exactly to the same curve as the glass.I think it would print ok. some experimenting needed I guess.
Corner detail was hand done and the goldleaf I used was 23crt and 18crt, the corners have just 12 crt and 23crt there is no abalone Alicia but that would of looked pretty nice I think with some of those shells in there. next time! Thanks again and glad you like it.
