Thanks everyone. The Air Affairs are cool events. Some of the best Airbrush Artists/Custom Painters in the business doing their thing together. This was the first for the Air Affair East,at Penn State .The original and main Air Affair is held annually in Salt Lake City ,Utah at the ASET/Iwata facility and there is talk of more ,one in Jacksonville Florida next January .Possibly in Canada also and even talk of Austrailia. It's an honor to participate and especially for me to represent Canada.

The panel is about 18X22 and was painted with Dupont Automotive basecoats using an Iwata Eclipse airbrush. It was done over the course of two days in between doing a Flame DEMO and a Striping DEMO.

Ricky that is Barris. One guy who inspired me as a kid.Building models and watching the Batmobile,Monkeymobile Green Hornet car and the Beverly Hillbillys truck week in week out was a great era in time for me.

Ron, just an eclipse? Not a Micron? How in the world do you get so much detail? Any secrets you're willing to share, what type of thinners? Fast Medium? Unbelievable that stones work.

Rod if the Air Affair ever comes to Austrailia I hope I am one of the artists that gets to be part of it.And,I'll be definatly calling you up as soon as I know anything. One way or another I hope to get to Aussyland one day .Hope all goes good with your big move!
Neil ,I did this with an Eclipse !I normally use an Iwata HP-C but at this event they had Eclipses and to tell you the truth I was really impressed.Funny thing is I own a couple new ones and just haven't used them yet.Very, very similar in working ability to the HP-C.I have used the HP-c's for at least twenty years .I do have Microns and love them but I seldom use them only because I find I manhandle them a bit too much and I hate to replace costly Micron parts .
To get the fine detail.... it's a trade secret!LOL! NOT! Neil its a matter of building the picture slowely, training your eye for detail, taking your time not to overwork it too fast. You need to over reduce your paint sometimes way past what you would think is needed and develope a soft trigger finger action. You need to learn how to cover or soften darker colours when you have gone too dark and when to place highlights when you need it lighter.I also use a medium or slow reducer depending on what line of paint I use.I spray anywhere from 45 to 65 PSI. Most quality automotive paints spray very similar in nature when used in an airbush .The Differences I find are usually in the colours .Black will spray better then white for example when over reduced the same amount.White is more pigmented so you need to over reduce it even more I find.Another important thing is to use fresh paint, not paint that has sat on a shelf for a long time or that has been reduced for over a couple days.Go slow and pay attention to detail.Get a good feel for your airbrush and have good lighting.
Ron.

Thanks Ron, I was having a devil of a time with the white like you said, but did'nt realize about using fresh paint, I was using paint that had been thinned and old as well, I could'nt get it to flow without drying up, the black like you said was fine. I have a Iwata and recently bought a richpen, real nice brush, but I onder what the frig I was doing wrong. I'd love to be able to attend a seminar someday from either you or Bevin, you both rock.. I'm just getting back into it after what seems like a 20 year absence. Thanks so much for answering.
